Running/working out while high, is it safe?

  1. Hey, I've been smoking for about 8 months now and have smoked pretty much everyday this year so far besides maybe 5 days. I'm trying to cut back, but whatever. So I love running and I love being high.. I combined the two last night and it was a lot of fun. I was loving the weather and the music I was listening to so it seems like the 2 were made for each other. Is this a safe thing to do? I'm a bit overweight not in great shape but I can still manage to run a good distance usually around 4 miles each run. I've heard it raises your heart beat a lot after smoking which raises your chance of a heart attack and combining that with an increased heart rate from running just doesn't sound very smart.

    So what's the deal here? Is it safe to work out while high or not? Thanks for the help
     
  2. Running is cardiovascular exercise... it's supposed to raise your heart beat. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have really really high blood pressure.

    You'll also sweat the THC out of your system lowering your tolerance. Seems win win to me.

    Cool thanks for your input. Everybody has been telling me it kills your high but I think it makes it better and makes the run so much greater. To each his own I guess. I just read that in a survey of 3,xxx people who had heart attacks 9 of them said they smoked marijuana in the hour prior to having the heart attack which sure does make me wonder.
     
  4. Yeah, if you've got a pretty good idea of your running speed and breathing patterns when you're not high, then you've got a pretty good idea if you're pushing it. Of course, a heart rate monitor (decent Polar for $99) will help a lot with running overall, high or not. Just watch your heart rate and other standard warning signs when running, should be fine.
     
  5. Dude, you're worried about 9 out of over 3,000? Shit, more people than that die from running each year that are young and perfectly healthy.

    There's probably more deaths every year from drowning in your own toilet than that. Just sayin... :D
     
  6. I would also like to add that NOT ONE SINGLE DEATH has been attributed to soley cannabis in the 10,000 years people have been smoking it.

  8. Smoking is not good for your "wind", or your health in general. You need to get a vaporizer. I like my little Vapor Brother's, but there are several reasonably priced ones on the market. DO NOT BUY an "El Cheapo" knock off! They are often poorly made and may REEK of plastic! Run a search on vaporizers and learn which ones to avoid!

    As for the physical effects of cannabis, you may find it interesting to take a peek at my MMJ list (linked below). I believe that most of the "detrimental" effects of cannabis are actually due to the combustion products from smoking. Vaporizing eliminates most of them. And there are edibles, tinctures and capsules. Smoking is not the only way to go! :D

  9. Granny Storm Crow... I must say I was dumbfounded when I read your thread on MMJ. To see not just how many ailments can be relieved, but also how much info was available about such situations made me want to piss on every politician I meet to put it nicely.

    I believe it was your list that made me register on GC :D
     



  10. I'm not worried about it, I was just pointing that out. Then again, a lot of people have just smoked weed in the past hour so it could be nothing and just a coincidence.



    True as far as I know, but if it has led to heart attacks and that heart attack killed the person then you could say it has.

  11. We would all know absolutely if weed was killing people or giving them heart attacks. Yes, you can be sure there are people (the government) WHO WOULD JUST JUMP ON THAT.

    But there is no such correlation or we would know even if they suspected a hint of it.
    So "you could say it has" only if it were the real deal, and we would all know it so it has never happened yet. So stop letting fear blow smoke up your ass and just run.

  12. 9 out of 3000 is lower than the average percentage of people who smoke daily. That number tells me pot keeps your heart healthy.
     
  13. I run about 4 miles on the treadmill 4 times a week (When the daily show has new episodes at least). I honestly can't stand working out unless I am high, I just get bored. So that's my personal experience, sometimes I even bring a little hash with me on the treadmill.

    EDIT::: Vape or Hash, I don't like SMOKING then running.
     
  14. I never play table tennis without smoking marijuana. It is sort of melting my body and mind to reach my top form everytime. When i lost point, i just don’t feel as stress, just forget about the lost point. It keeps me stay positive which is the important attitude to win the game!
     
  15. Used to play soccer in high school and in mens leagues and smoking was great.... edibles would be better but yea. If I do a treadmill or elliptical I HAVE to be stoned to make it through a 30 min session.

  16. I would suggest edibles for when you run, that way your lungs don't get smoked out before you put them to hard work. You will get better performance.
