Rubbermaid tubs

  1. Has anyone heard that rubbermaid tubs are bad for growing in? I've heard from 2 different grow shops that the plastic leaches and wouldn't be healthy to consume

  2. I'm gonna guess they had their own slightly more expensive alternatives for sale?

  3. people use plastic rubbermaid tubs for bubble buckets and dwc's all the time. the proprietor wanted to sell you a piece of equipment that is build for hydro at twice the price. use the rubbermaids, save your hard earned $.

  4. haha good call mycroft

  5. You would think the SAFER one wuld be cheeper, people buying more of them. But NOOOOOO, not in todays age. It is twice price to live healthy. Good call mycroft !!!

  6. One shop did want me to buy their reservoir, the other told me some things I could make one out of from a home supply store. I've also talked to a botany professor I'm doing a project with and they agreed that rubbermaid wouldn't be healthy, but we are not going to consume the plants we are growing so we're still using them. I had considered the shops wanted my business so I was just seeing if anyone else had heard the same thing.

  7. what exactly is going to leach off the plastic? the logic behind this doesnt line up for me.

  8. plastics that are "rubbermaid" may have some adverse effects on your water if its exposed to intense light and or heat....its kinda like people sayn hey dont heat/freeze that food in plastic cause it'll give ya cancer. after all plastic is a petroleum product...i dont know any facts just my opinion.

  9. Use the darn rubbermaid. If you are paranoid, you can either line the tub with super thick black plastic garbage bag liner or cover the outer portion of the res to protect it from light with anything from duct tape, plastic or foil....

  10. I have 5 plants growing in my stealth rubbermaid box right now...

  11. dude a lot of the nedia crap about plastic leaching carcinagens when they are heated comes from research done by some grad student. the plastics industry hired a bunch of different colleges to check the guys research and the guys results were the result of bad procedures. much of the bad stuff being said about plastic is being said by activists who have a gripe against every thing sinthetic you know the same crowd who bitch about hydro nutes not being organic.

  12. i use organic hydro nutes;)
