So idk whats really going on, I think the soil may be too compacted at the bottom of the pot but our roots are starting to grow out of the soil. This started about 10 days ago, after the third or fourth day we added an inch more soil to top off the pot and now they have shown up again. Please help!!! Is this harmful to the plant? Is the pot too small? Should we start budding them now? Thanks!
Are your roots growing back up to the surface, or out the bottom of the pot? This is a indicator that the plant needs a bigger container for the roots to spread out in.
They're growing back up to the surface. We are using pretty big pots, i don't know if thats the problem. And if it is, idk how we are going to transplant the plants since they are so far along.
you can still transplant them no matter how far they are along, just have to use extreme care sounds like you need a pot at least a foot deeper. how many gallons does your current pot hold? id recommend at least 5gal. the more the merrier! you will end up hurting your plant more by not transplanting asap than you will just letting it grow the roots out the top of the pot. you can do it!
2 gallon not even close to big enough, there's your answer. I was just going to ask if maybe you were upside down?
you are welcome! i had a plant in a 2.5 gallon pot, and when flowering time came around i got root-bound. that was no fun transplanting a 4' tall plant into a bigger pot. much easier to start big to begin with. you can get a 5 gallon bucket or larger at walmart or home depot for less than 10 bucks. just drill some holes in the bottom. get a black bucket if you can. your roots will appreciate that!
Yeah, our plants are about 2 feet tall, maybe a couple inches bigger. Is there any technique you would recommend to transplant them??
