Root trimming for reveg?

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by DinduNuffin, Apr 10, 2016.

  1. Is it necessary to trim the roots prior to reveg? I have a plant I want to reveg thats in a large pot with multiple other plants. I want to leave the plant in the same pot after harvest and reveg it without having to dig it up just to trim the roots. It will be going back under a HID light also. Will it work or be slower to reveg that way? Is there anything to help make it reveg faster?

  2. I'd only trim roots if it's getting rootbound. It is not necessary before reveg.

  3. If you plan to reveg just to hack to death taking clones, then I wouldn't trim the roots.

But...if you plan to keep a mother or run through harvest again, trim 1/3-1/2 the ball. Stay away from the middle. Just the edges.

Assuming the plant had used the majority of its container.

    Best of luck!

  4. If the roots are white and healthy leave em and feed the soil kelp extract and molasses to keep the microbes alive until the plant starts to re-veg that way it will do it faster because it isn't spending energy to regrow roots.

  5. I read a thread saying trimming the roots is good to "avoid problems down the line" so guessed that it would be easier for them to root if I did trim its roots. I only need to reveg to take clones from it. I hacked off 2/3 of it and left a good amount of places for new growth to start.

  6. I would imagine cutting roots would stress out the plant big time, but that's just a guess and I have 0 experience with that lol

  7. If I were to remove the plant from the soil bed, how should I do it? I'm pretty sure there is a root ball right under the stalk and the rest of the roots are spread out.

  8. A chainsaw should do it.

  9. Thats going to be too loud.

  10. Best way is to do it very carefully. I grab the plant at the base and flip her upside down, then slide the pot off.

  11. I just harvested some 6' indoor plants and the flowers are good all the way to the bottom. I have the root system which is still healthy (soil grow) outdoor season is here so does anyone know if I do what was said above as far as trimming the root show much branch do I have to leave if any

  12. I've just done this with two mother plants. I was going to just hack and grow but decided there was no harm in sliding it out of the pot to see how the roots looked. They were pretty bound up so I did trim it by half on both and when I re-potted them I put FF:Ocean Forest mixed with some Happy Frog. They just exploded with new growth right away and got through the deformed leaf stage really quick. I'm now a week away from starting a ScrOG with both. Here's some pics:
