Can anyone tell me the requirements for root growth if one is to veg plants till they're 1 foot before they are put into flowering? What size pots/root chambers would you recomend. How bulky should I expect the roots to be, roughly what size area should I provide for them? I'm trying to build a bubble bucket style set up with the smallest buckets possible to conserve space without jeopardising yield potential. Your help is greatly appreciated.
i usually start in styrofoam dixie cups. they're easy to poke holes in for drainage. i transplant one more time into a bigger container before i go to one gallon pots. after about a week i go to 5 gallons where i stay until finished. rule of thumb is one gallon of medium for each foot of growth. most bubble buckets are 5 gallons. it can vary.
^Thats right for soil, im dont know about bubble buckets though. So i cant really give a second opinion.
thanks for the vote of confidence stonie! i asked a friend and he told me you want to have 5 gallons of water for each plant minimum. he said if you go lower than 5 gallons per plant, you will constantly battle with ph drift.
jeorge cervantes (sp?) reccomends 1 gallon for each month of plant life, ive always stuck by that and have been fine, i think a 5 gallon bubble bucket is going to be your best bet.
Thanks for the info guys, Do you guys pump/re-circulate the water in the bottom of the buckets or just leave it? How often do you need to replace/check the water in the buckets for quality? What's the best routine for doing so? Cheers
