[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0GZznxMC14&feature=BF&playnext=1&list=QL&index=1]YouTube - Ron Paul on marijuana, prohibition, and personal freedom[/ame] couldnt have said it better myself. lets discuss this man, his odds of becoming president, his credentials, his supporters, everything in general. I am a Ron Paul supporter, I think he would have a GREAT chance at the 2012 election if there wasn't such strong censorship in the media working against Dr Paul. This man is undoubtedly legitimate in his knowledge about economy and foreign policy. he knows what he is talking about. he is 100 percent concrete in his views unlike every other president in history that has changed their mind and never brought the pasts promises.
Ron Paul IS going to be the next president of the United States of America. I'm a democrat, have always been one BUT when it comes to this nation I believe Ron Paul can run it. He IS the most down to earth, realistic, and honest politician that I can think of.
Ron Paul was a candidate last election for president but didn't make it. His facebook page has over 280,000 people on it. He is the most popular up and coming candidate for our next presidency. RON PAUL 2012!
Well NOBODY is right 100% of the time. I think we can all agree on the decriminalization of Marijuana though
The smartest thing about Ron Paul is that he runs under the Republican flag but you're right, he is a Lib and MOST people don't know that!
So you support FIAT money and Central Banking? And you're willing to completely toss away your vote for Ron Paul based on a single issue, when he's one of the only honest politicians in the country? Really? I don't like Ron Paul, despite him being honest, so I'mma just vote for Obama who lies and cheats, but *says* things I agree with.
I don't understand how it makes sense to have an economy which is based on growth and profit have a currency backed by a limited resource.
But it makes sense to have a currency backed by NOTHING? Anyways, you're confused. Gold may be limited in quantity, but not in value. If there is less gold then it is worth more and denominations will become smaller. Gold isn't the only commodity to back a currency, it's just the most convenient. You could use anything that is rare and measurable.
It doesn't make sense to give Governments a printing press that can displace the negative effects of printing money onto the people's backs. Inflation is basically another form of 'invisible taxation'. When you print money, the value of each and every dollar in the economy goes down, thus, inflation. Governments don't know how to manage money, and they don't know when to stop spending, so it's like giving the car keys to an alcoholic. Government has no self-restraint, so giving them the car keys to the economic engine of the country makes literally no sense. A currency backed by gold doesn't rely on faith (Paper money only works because people keep faith in it. When people begin to lose faith, they buy gold). A commodity such as gold, derives it's value from the fact that it's scarce, and is able to be widely used. Gold is used in everything from electronics to jewelry, so it has a practical use, as well. Everyone agrees that Gold is valuable, and you can't exactly 'print up' more Gold, so you'll never have true inflation. The prime reason to switch to a commodity-backed currency is so that you take the destructive monetary-debasing power of FIAT money out of the people most likely to abuse that power--the Government.
thats interesting i havent heard about his views on a gold currency. but it sure as hell makes a lot of sense. im no political expert im not keen on all the terms but im damn sure everything ron paul supports he has backed with evidence and reasoning and he never has changed his position on any issue. ron paul would run the country better than anyone ive ever heard of i really really hope he runs in 2012. I wouldnt be surprised that when he did win theyd fucking kill him or he wouldnt be able to do all the things a president should be able to do. i think theyres a lot more behind the scenes of being a president than what we know. if anything i think the president is just a spokesperson and that we dont even know the real people in charge.
Not exactly relevant but something cool nonetheless. My grandfather actually was in the same fraternity as Ron Paul, even cooler is Ron Paul was his big brother. They actually talk on the phone every so often, and he talked to my grandfather about running for president in 2008. We were talking about it a while back, he said Ron Paul is without a doubt the smartest man he ever met. Whenever all his friends went out to do anything, he (Ron) would sit home and study relentlessly, and pretty much anytime he wasn't in class. I really hope one day I would get to sit and chat with him, been bothering my grandfather to mention it if he talks to him on the phone again. How cool would that be to smoke up with him
Not gonna happen. With him saying words like revolution and such, it just drives away the majority of voters. His policies are too radical for them to be approved in congress. You guys have to remember that congress is just as important as the president.
thats a very good point^ still even if he could follow through with 1/8 of the things he says he wants to he would make 10 times a better president than the last 4 we've had.
Then again, where is all the change that Obama said? Ron Paul could very well turn out to be a repeat.
