Ron Paul is like socialism

  1. WORKS IN THEORY NOT IN PRACTICE

    discuss :smoke:

  2. I agree, but would still vote for him

A lot of his ideas are right on, but stuff like abolishing the Food and Drug Administration because "someone else" would inspect our food is foolish. The whole reason the FDA was created was because food distributors couldn't be trusted to put safety above profit. And switching our currency back to the gold or silver standard? That wouldn't work in the 21st century.

  3. Why do you say Ron Pauls policies would not work? They are common sense idea's.

  4. Why??

  5. But Communism works in neither Theory nor Practice.

Yet, we seem to be headed there even more with some of the other cantidates.

Possible socialism > Possible Communism (IMO)

    Edit:

But I really don't agree with Ron Paul being Socialist, at all.

  6. Frightingly true

  7. Don't you hate when people make ridiculous claims without any backup?

If you are going to completely blow off someone then at least back up your accusations, how exactly does it not work in practice? Give me some examples when conservative-libertarianism "doesn't work"

There are many socialist countries which are "working" (even though Ron Paul is the utter opposite of socialism).

    Here's an idea: http://forum.grasscity.com/search.php

  8. Why??[/quote]

Without the ability to print money as needed, a stock market crash like Black Monday 1987 (the largest single-day decline in history) would be as serious as the Great Depression.

  9. Ron Paul supports legalization of alternate currencies, not a return to the gold standard. Anything can compete as a currency in Ron Paul's America: gold, silver, oil, labor credits, land certificates...anything.

Here's a debate from 1983 against Charles Partee that sums up his stances, it's a tad long but if you are truely interested, hey who knows you might learn something.

  10. Yes but at the moment this country is on a financial downward spiral and its foolish to think it can be stoped. Like an alcoholic, we have to hit rock bottom before we can recover. The ability to print money as needed without anything to back it up is a foolish idea. It was a foolish solution brought on by roosevelt when he did away with the gold standard.
This country pulled thru the great depression, it pulled thru black monday, and it will pull thru the next financial disaster. If a stock market crash is what it takes to get this country back to being fiscally responsible so be it.

  11. Search for what? I haven't seen too many threads about Ron Paul jokes...

I guess the "theory but not in practice" just addresses the idea of implementing systems that guarantee social equality. The only way to guarantee such equality is to create a government which has the ability to enforce tyrannical policies and ends up taking away from the equality of the system through corruption.

As for Ron Paul, I do like several of his policies (Abolishing the IRS) but I feel that many of his reforms would have incredible effects on our economy and welfare if they were implemented.

Take for example abolishing tax deduction for charitable acts. If corporations and individuals donating items don't get incentive to keep donating, it will collapse charity revenue because there's simply NO way to make people give money unless they get something in return. This is the kind of aristocracy that Ron Paul supports, if we go into analyzing the actual implementation of the policies.

  12. we a;;ready live in a psuedo-socialist society now,,,, so why not make it official and have pot legalized at the same time,,,,

why not ron paul,,, the others are pretty lame,,, so he's got my vote,,, maybe he will support the fair tax bill,,,,, but you play with what you got<<<<<<<< not what you want,,,,:cool:http://[IMG]]

  13. I'm sorry but I'm baffled to how you got to that conclusion...

    Explain?

  14. Which conclusion?

  15. Its not like Ron Paul will be in the election..so far..hes not even close at securing the republican primary..id love to see hiim in office, but he refuses to run Libertarian..

then again..we have a whole year

  16. When I was saying search I was saying search for Ron Paul, since we have about 6 active Ron Paul threads it's better to keep these conversations in one thread rather than have a dozen threads with the same posters arguing the same issues.

You're right though, we can't have a system that guarantees social equality. I guess that's one thing that appeals to me about Paul's message, I guess I'm just a pull yourself up by your own bootstraps type of guy.

What incredible effects on our economy and welfare are you talking about, exactly? He is trying to get us out of this welfare state, the nanny state. Paul was an economist before he was a politician, he has stated several times the only reason he got into politics is because he feared for the economic future of our country. I'm not exactly a economist, but so far the knowledge I've gained from economic courses, books I've read, it seems like it would definitely be an improvement in a time when one is needed.

Has he said he is going to abolish tax deductions for charity donations? I thought he said the opposite? But anyways, imagine that the sales tax, income tax, etc are eliminated. Now, even before those tax's gone, would Americans be more willing to donate to a charity when they know where there money is going, or pay overbearing tax's to the government for many unnecessary and unaccomplished government programs. When Americans are keeping this much more income, they would more willing to donate to charities.

Okay I am ripped out of mind right now so everything I just typed might not be a perfect response but I'll add more (if you reply) in the morning with a more thought out answer.

  17. I was talking to the original poster

  18. if i relized this thread was here i would of posted here before that thread in Seasoned tokers. but yea. i belive socialism would work in practice as well as theory. like it was said before me we're already halfway to socialism. and other industialized nations have taken even bigger steps then we have. the hard part of making a pure socialist or pure capitalist economy is really making people behave themself and acctually care about each other instead of only thinking about themselves and how they can advance in the world and how they can have a better life. if we could get rid of the fuck everyone but me mantality that has griped the human race because of greed we would be in such a better place period. though i do think a pure socialism would do better then a pure capitalism. That stance can change if ron paul is elected and it works. i will be voting for him in the primary. think its feb 7th here

  20. Ron Paul is about liberties. Anything that is against liberties is what Paul is about.
