what do folk think of rockwool.......I am a little worried about the ph .... I have never used it before and wondered if I need to ajust my waters ph as I have read the rockwool can alter the ph a lot.........can you help please?.many thanks
Soak in pH ~5.3 water before use and you should be fine. Rockwool is slightly alkaline. Edit- Wrong section though bro.
rockwool is great for germinating seeds in my experience. They retain water like crazy so you dont have to worry about that. Just stick the cubes with the seeds in a humidity dome or ziploc bag and watch your seeds sprout. But yeah, make sure you adjust your PH when you dip the cubes in water to soak them.
just soak them for like 5mins in water throw the seed or cutting in and put them into a hmuidty dome and leave them some were dark with a heat pad and in few days they should be sprouting
I really like rockwool, it's possible, but difficult to overwater it and even though the pH is a little high, as written above, that is easily managable. Be careful that you don't leave the damp rockwool exposed to light as it will grow algae on it and attract annoying, but mostly harmless, fungus gnats. I use white covers to cover the rockwool cube, or you could cover with hydroton
