I was going to grow in rock wool fully as it seems cleaner and easier for transplanting, but some people said it's a bad way to grow so I'm thinking of growing in COCO, I was thinking could I note start the seed off in a rock wool cube, then when roots come through the bottom I'll put that into a 4" rock wool block, then once roots come through the bottom of that make a whole in the COCO in the pot (5gall probably) and put the rockwool block inside the COCO in the pot? Would this work and be okay?
Would it be possible to use the rapid rooter and when it outgrows it, then put it straight inside of a 5 Gallon Fabric Pot? Would this effect any plant quality or growth, or do I need to start small and build up my transplanting?
In hydro, the seeds can be planted in RRs, then moved to their final (netpot + hydroton) destinations, either immediately, or when roots show thru. I presume it's the same with solid media.
I put my rapid rooters directly into the medium within days of sprouting. You can put it in a 5 gallon pot but I always found it easier to start in solo cups first, then transplant to a larger pot after 2 weeks. Also, you don't need a 5 gallon pot for coco - 2-3 is large enough. Don't forget to add 30% perlite and do yourself a favor and read how to grow in coco www.cocoforcannabis.com. Good luck.
Would it be okay to do Rapid Rooter > Solo Cup > 5 Gallon and how long should it be in the Solo Cup for?
That's fine. I prefer smaller than 5 gallon pots when I grow in coco. I leave mine in the solo cups for about 2 weeks. Here's what they look like at 2 weeks from sprout.
No need to even put them in rapid rooter if this is what you’re doing. I plant directly into a solo cup. I pre charge my coco while I’m Soaking my beans and once they crack they go directly into my coco. I’ve had more success with germination in coco than rapid rooters and those were my go to for awhile. Now if I’m growing in 100% perlite hempys like the pics above I use a 1.5 “ net pot like for DWC hydro systems. Fill it with the moist pre charged coco and use it to sprout my beans and then transfer them to whatever I want afterwards.

As mentioned in an earlier post - All your coco questions can be answered here - www.cocoforcannabis.com. A good start to finish nutrient line when growing in coco that's inexpensive is GH MaxiBloom - no grow necessary. I use MaxiBloom, Silica Blast, and SM90 - no calmag supplement necessary because I precharge my coco and I use tap water.
If I use a COCO 70/30 Perlite mix, and through the life of the plant use that MaxiBloom, will I need to precharge and if so how
Click the link he gave you and it’ll answer all of the questions you have. You’ll need to precharge to be safe regardless and I use megcrop one part beginning to end as well as the silica and hydroguard as opposed to slf 90.
Hi so I found a perlite coco mix that says this below, so I dont need to pre charge right " Pre Blended with 157.5g of Ecothrive Charge The perfect mix of 70% coco coir and 30% perlite for optimum aeration, pre-blended with Ecothrive Charge for an unbeatable biological boost. Most Coco Coir mixes contain no nutrients with very low levels of beneficial biological activity. Now with Charge conveniently pre-blended into your coco mix your plants enjoy a balanced, organic source of primary nutrients along with a boost of beneficial bacteria, chitin and naturally occurring Trichoderma."
The problem is with this site not cocoforcannabis. If you google it instead of using the link I posted you will be able to access the site.
Consider perlite as an alternative to rockwool. Superior in that no ph issue. Opposite in that quick drain is achieved. Very cheap, fabric bag filled with perlite. Plant seed directly in perlite, no rapid rooter. Spray seedling for about 3 to 4 weeks, then bag becomes filled with roots and it is about like coco or soil. Plants will bottom feed nicely in bags in nute water if the nute water is fresh and oxygenated.
