  1. hey guys im about to start my hydro grow but i just realized that i dont know how to start a seed in rockwool could someone please step by step it for me please. it just seems confusing to how to start a seed in the rockwool.

  2. id like to know the answer to this too...

  3. What I do is start the seed in a damp cotton napkin (paper towel works too), then when the white taproot shows from the seed, I very carefully poke it into the rockwool cube using my pocketknife to get it in there safely so the root doesn't break. Most of the rockwool cubes come with a pre-made hole, but if it doesn't you can make one yourself easily.

It seems to take about three days for the seeds to sprout, sometimes a few days longer. I keep them wet (but not soaking) and also keep them warm and dark. That means I roll them up in my cotton napkin, get the napkin wet, set in a ziplock bag (though I don't actually close the bag), then I put it in a cardboard box and set it in a table that's above a heater vent. Then I check it every day until it sprouts.

While I'm waiting for the seeds to sprout, I pre-soak the rockwool cubes in Ph balanced water. I keep the same water on hand for watering the cubes later. You don't have to save the same water, but if you don't then you need to keep a supply of Ph balanced water for the purpose.

So once you see the white taproot, then you just poke it root first into the rockwool. A few days later you should see it sprout, showing it's set of cotyledons, then shortly after its first set of true leaves.

I wait until the first roots poke through the rockwool before I transfer to the hydro set-up.

    Hope this helps.
