We all the know the story, in 2006, UK police cracked down on a number of major growers, making dozens of arrests and seizing/destroying millions of pounds of product.

For the subsequent two years, things were very 'dry' depending on where you were in the country, and to make matters worse, some of the remaining growers (or more likely the middlemen) began contaminating the produce with glass/sand/silica in order to gain extra weight.

Since about that time, I've been very careful to test all my smoke before consumption, I'd urge anyone living in the UK to do the same, but I personally hadn't come across anything I thought to be contaminated in about 2 years, microcontaminants are apparantly still about but I've never found them and I screen all my bud under an electronic microscope at the lab I work in.

A week ago I had a smoke with a friend, since I haven't seen grit in some time, and didnt have access to a 'scope, I did not test his product before rolling (other than a quick rubbing of kief on my tongue but it didn't feel like grit.)

I went home feeling chesty, and woke up with mouth ulcers and acute bronchitus. I've been hacking up blood in my phlegm ever since, running a fever of 103, and generally feeling like shit. It's only today I've been half human enough to get myself to a doctor and come on here to report to you guys.

But this is nothing compared to my friend, he's in hospital with a collapsed lung, apparantly this happened almost instantaneously when he hit his pipe. His girlfriend drove him to hospital suspecting he was having an asthma attack.

An hour ago I got a text from my dealer warning that there's a contaminated batch in Cornwall that contains FIBREGLASS. Same thing happened to one of his customers, collapsed lungs, and lots of people getting very sick. He claims to have been unaware of the contamination but I'm going to boycott him anyway for now.

I don't have any pictures because, thank god, I haven't picked up in a while - but I'll try to get hold of my friend's Gritweed when he's out of hospital, and see what I can see under the 'scope.

In the mean time, if you live in S.W. England, BE VIGILANT. I worked with fiberglass when I was younger and it's not pleasent stuff, the dust appears crystally, but like glassweed, the 'kief' will fall off pretty easy, will scratch a CD, and the bud itself is hard/brittle. The biggest give away should be that Fiberglass tends to give off puffs of dust, if your weed seems dusty or 'smokey' when ground or rubbed between your fingers - throw it out right away.

Fuck anybody that adulterates weed for the sake of profit, this is NOT what cannabis is all about.

  2. Sucks for you guys over there, man. I think it must be pretty rare though, because where I am used to be grid weed central but it's nowhere to be seen these days.

  3. Fuuuuuuck I'm going to have to start checking mine then ): I didn't think gritweed was around any more. Ah well, thanks man.

  4. Thats fucked man hope your mates alright! have noticed how bad weed is here lately its all sprayed. you wouldn't notice at first but since i grew my own batch i can't even smoke my dealers shit now literally disgusting and i will likely just quit when my own shit runs out

Thanks all, and my mate's doing much better now thanks for your concern, going to visit him when I feel up to it. Just keep an eye out and you'll be fine - it does seem to have been in decline, but I'm told that up north it's still pretty bad. My mate in Bradford can't get anything that's not been sprayed in something :(

DIY Growing has to be the way forward, if enough of us started planting wild we could have it growing everywhere!

  6. one time I brought 2 grams of this schwag when I was poor and desperate, I found out it was grit weed after I brought it, and was so desperate to smoke that I actually smoked the entire 2 grams of it.

  7. fuck man. turn that dude in who sold it to you. you can't get in trouble for buying unless they catch you in the act..

  8. Ah man, not good, were you ill after?

Well, I haven't bought any myself and my dealer was good enough to send out a warning text as soon as he found out. He's trying to find out who laced the stuff, and then he's going to "knock seven shades of shit out of them" - in this own words :p

  9. It was all over the place the first time it hit here, but I haven't seen any in a few years.
To be fair, I've had a very reliable grower for a few years too...:smoke:

  10. Goes to show how fucked up the black market is willing to get just to increase the profit margin and a regulated system is the best way to keep everyone safe.

  11. no grit where im living and ive never checked for it! east anglia ftw

  12. That's just some bullshit that people do that. And growing your own is a good way to keep safe/save money but no it's gotta be a felony to grow

It's funny, because of my own experiences with herb, I've never actually been all that keen on it being legalised (I mean, it's just another vice for society right?) But now that I've learned firsthand how nasty, thoughtless and downright dangerous some of the dealers are, I'm starting to see how regulated sale could be a really good thing. In 15 years of toking I have never wished any ill on those who have provided weed for me, but this shit is heinous, I feel a genuine desire to inflict pain on those responsible.

In all honesty this is the first time I've seen contaminated weed here in years, it's also the first time I ever smoked any. If it's been out of your area for a while, you're probably safe now, no harm doing the CD test if you're in doubt though :smoke:

  14. fuck i cant believe assholes actually do that, its a scary thought. turning a safe plant into a fucking horrible thing that can ruin your body.

  15. Scary thought. I feel horrible for UK blades right now.

I live outside of a big city which often puts out grit with glass particles in it. The best choice you can make besides testing is to invest in some sort of water device. If your smoke is water filtered any particulate like sand or glass won't be able to make it up the tube... also, you'll see it sitting in the bottom if you have a clear bong.

  16. "THE" reason to make it legal...
