Hey guys....so the first semester of college is coming to an end..and I have a bit of a problem. For my composition 1 class we are writing a research paper for the final...and the problem is...we can't fully choose our topic. The topics we have to choose from are going to be extremely hard for me to write about because it seems so fucking boring. Below is what it needs to be about, along with examples she gave us to go by...Could anyone give me some good topics they might write about? Our focus for theresearch project will be gender/or age& media; your chosen topic must address both these areas. Since you will be spending significant timewith this subject & most of the essay should entail your own thoughts,choose a topic that interests you & with which you are somewhatfamiliar. You are not limited to thesebut consider the following examples. Each of these possibilities would require refinement & ultimatelythe development of a strong thesis statement/claim. Ø Gender/ or age imagesin television advertising (Example: depiction of men in fast food commercials,children and cereal commercials, teenagers and drinking) Ø Gender/ or agetreatment in video games (Example: portrayal of females in contemporary videogames) Ø Gender/or agecommunication as portrayed in a popular television show (Example: communicationstyles between women and men as shown on Still Standing) Ø Gender/or age imagesin magazine advertising (Example: relationship messages in alcoholadvertisements, cosmetics and youth or medicines in the aging population) Gender/or age images in Internet advertising orwebsites (Example: relationship messages in politics, food, apparel) Since it has to be 1500-2000 words with 5 works cited, I'm having trouble thinking of anything remotely interesting enough for me to write more than a few paragraphs. I'd just do a paper on women in the media (Hollywood, music, etc) and how they're influencing the psychology of young women. There's quite a bit of information available on the Internet about that. Easiest angle to investigate, IMO, would be the increased prevalence of eating disorders and self-esteem issues amongst preteen and teenage girls as a result of striking toward "Hollywood perfection." Might be better suited for a psych class though, I dunno lol
