reptile lights? will they work?

  1. I'm soon to be getting a new place to stay and am gonna start growing some bud of my own, but i need some advice about which lights to use. Most people i know who grow use hps lights but these rape your electric bill cos theyre like 4/600 watts. i thought about using reptile lights instead as these are only about 30/40 watts. the brand im looking at (cos theyre stocked in my local pet shop) is exoterra reptiglo lights. they do 3 different types: daylight, tropical and desert; and im guessing either the tropical or desert one would be best.im not gonna pretend i know about uv levels but the website for a brand of these lights states uva output of 30% and uvb output of 5% for the tropical type and uva output of 33% and uvb output of 8% for the desert type.

Any help you guys can give would be much appreciated

    cheers

  2. One 150w hps will grow two plants, 3 small ones alright!!!!

Reptile lights will work as they are basically full spec lights.

I would get one 150w HPS though.

And a side note. Its not the type of light you use that affect your electric bill its the ammount of watts. 200hps will spin the meter the same as 200w of floro tubes.

  3. reptile lights will work as "some" are full spectrum. Most like exo terra may be full spectrum, but the light they produce is very blue, and the lumens they produce is very low.

I'm actually a reptile breeder, specialist, and while exotera may produce full spectrum 8%-15% of those bulbs spectrum are in the uvb producing spectrum which is invisiable, so very low light output. I've read talk that uvb might actually increase potency of your crop, but because of the low light/luman output you will need other bulbs that produce high lumans for good lush, quick growth.. go to home depot and buy the regular "cool white" bulbs, and a dual fixture. if you'd like to try the uvb reptile lighting use a dual fixture with a regular cool white bulb next to it.. Basica;;y with fluorescents you want as many as you can fit, and as close to the plant as they can get without burning.

  4. When marijuana becoems a reptile they will. If reptile light worked well do you think we all would be spending 10 times as much on grow lights? If you want to grow pot do a search learen all you can and put some money into yor grow.

  5. so what would you say a 100W daylight bulb would be equivelant to? i also work at a pet shop :D

  6. But what if you put 2 26w Cfls in a dual exo terra canopy lights with other 26w Cfls next to it?
