Replacement Bong Stem

I want to start by saying that I am new to Grasscity and have been toking for about a year and a half now straight. I love these forums and am glad to finally be apart of this community.

I have 2 two foot bongs that I broke the downstems on by me and my friend dropping ice directly down the bong and striking the down stem. I have replaced one and plan on replacing the other one soon.

My problem is that the replacement downstems are too long and stick out about an inch and a half too long and the bongs don't quite hit the same...they kind of hit like they don't have enough water. So I was thinking I would take the replacement downstems to a glassshop and get them cut to size so that they would be a perfect fit...so maybe I already have the solution to my problem???

I am just looking for a little confirmation I guess...Can one cut glass at home with some type of household tool? Is getting the downstems cut to size the solution to my problem with the bongs not hitting right?

I do already have them but they pertrude from the bong a couple inches. I guess I do need to get them cut.

 

That would have been easy if they had different length sizes, they were all the same length which is too long...

I am going later to see if they have different lengths now because I want these bongs back to perfect condition and not deformed condition so maybe I can sell them and buy a nice molino mad scientist or molino ice bong.

 

So I went to visit a local headshop again and found a shorter downstem so after 10 bucks and 20 minutes of hell on my fingers and hands both of my bongs are as good as new.

yeah I'm going towards the molino large ice bong for 100 dollars with the ash catcher here on GC...well once it comes back in stock.

 

Yeah I have read complaints on the thickness of the glass on the mad scientist version2 being 3mm.

Thats why I plan on going with this molino ice bong that is 4.2mm thick with an ash catcher for under 100 dollars.

I was going to start a new thread to tell everyone about my final purchase decisions with this bong but I guess Maybe I can get some thoughts on this piece in this thread...I plan on adding a blue molino bowl to get the total over 100 dollars so I can get free shipping.
