Okay this is a rant, but remember when Obama was first running for office? Celebrities everywhere showed their approval and support for him, telethons, TV shows, interviews, fundraisers, and as much support there is out there for full-legalization of marijuana, the seriousness and publicity is lacking. I don't know about you guys, but this is a BFD, a big fucking deal, even bigger than Biden's Health Care Bill but publicly its just not out there like it should be. If just one or two celebrities simply showed full support, for the ones that already enjoy the great values of maryj, we could really get rolling.. Now for the people who say that it wouldn't make a difference, put it this way....if Snoop Dogg (Just to throw a name out there) were to create a huge showcase for pro-legalization it would really blow-up. The media coverage, the press, the people, its all out of proportion which is the exact publicity this thing needs. Agree to disagree? Stay medicated, free the green!
Celebrities don't endorse ideas, they endorse people. Legalizing weed is not a person. Plus, everybody had a hardon for Obama.. well, except me. So yea, of course celebrities loved him. But they're just as stupid as he is.
The media coverage... you mean like the evening news? The news that sells tons of ad slots to pharmaceutical companies? Riiiight. But I do agree that getting some celebrities involved in a real active pro-legalization movement, complete with rallies, marches, civil disobedience... this is how we could get things changed.
Unfortunately smoking cannabis is still considered a taboo by a lot of people. I think Japan has outrageous sentences for smoking the grass. Snoop Dogg isn't really a credible celebrity to put on the face of an advertisement that's pro-marijuana. I know what you're saying and how easy it is to use him as an example (he's made millions off of his weed smoking!), but that's just it. I know a lot of people who look at him as just a pothead and would say "All the more reason to keep it illegal". Now if we could get someone like Bill O' Reilly preaching the herb, but that's the day crystal meth cures cancer...
They don't even have to be celebrities, I use that term loosly, it can be any person with social power, ie role models, well-known figures, etc etc. What i'm saying is for how big a deal this really is, there really sure is a whole lotta inactivity going on. And the media, regardless, of what ad slots are paid for etc, are gonna show "controversial" news the big topic of whats going on right now, little to few stations would sanction the news out..imo Fully agree with you which is why I was hesitant to name Snoop Dogg as an example but put it this way, even for the people who support-marijuana, i'm feeling like the "umph" just isn't there and less voters than possible are going to "turn-out" come November, when everything is on the line. Its still "a thing" people place their interests in so it becomes a big deal, believe it or not endorsing ideas brings market, brings more people, which is what this topic needs, more endorsments, and I hope you guys can make it my main points even though its mixed with "high" ranting.
Well I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think celebrities will play a big part in legalization. No celebrities here in CA have really been talking about it (except for that South Park episode) and yet almost every day support seems to be growing.
I'm pretty sure that snoop might not be the best way to legalize it(hehe random Peter Tosh quote). Although if snoop dog came out with a huge campaign it would be sweeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!! I think maybe someone with a bigger rate of appeal like Stephen King (I hate his books but a lot of people like him), or a pop-punk band to appeal to the brain-dead teenage population, something like that might do the trick. Maybe someone who is ridiculously smart would be a good idea.
If Bill O' Reilly preached about herb in a GOOD way, I would break into a cocaine warehouse and sell everything because I will know that I'm in a dream and can do whatever I want.
There are already lots of celebrities endorsing weed publicly. Look at Woody Harrelson. If Snoop Dogg did it, chances are nobody would care any more.
Before the election, I predict there will be a good sized celebrity sponsored legalization benefit program...at a minimum on a good cable channel. Maybe a few of them. There are a great many good names that could put on a good show and believe in this cause. We have a little bit to go before this heats up. Politically, you want to built to election in Nov, not blow your load in March.
That would be great and thumbs up for continued support growing in CA, its good to hear some daily updates!!
Right on brother.. It would be terrific for that to happen but most musical celebrities today are symmetrical bags of wind who sing through machines to tune their voices and get others to write their songs.. no talent at all. Most actor celebrities are chumps in the same bucket.. concerned with their personal wealth and career advancements.. It'll take a person or peoples with genuine heart, who just don't give a fuck, before we can see something of substance from the so-called 'idols' or 'role models'. On the positive side though, everything is possible... For a laugh check out the new episode of the Boondocks (season 3 episode 1).. it's funny as.. Later dude.
Okay okay, i'll become famous and represent us all lol. it wouldn't make a difference, people will scrutinize said celebrity, bring up old arrests, and dig up dirt to discredit them. That's how the media works man.
Her are a list of celebrities i could think of that are known pot heads and want legalization. Joe Rogan. Host of fear factor, UFC. He was interviewed in the documentary, The Union: the business of getting high Chong. If you dont know what he was in, get the hell of the site. Snoop Dog: Known to light up during concerts Doug Benson: Made a movie Called Super High Me. Known pot head comedian Brad Pitt: After staring in the 1993's True Romance, has appeared in public wearing a T-shirt that reads "I live for hemp," Actor Nathan Crombie: plays one of the many killer orcs in the film Lord of The Rings, boasted in the media that he had smoked phat joints every day on the set in New Zealand. Willie Nelson: Obviously loves the green shit Kirsten Dunst- Just last year, Kirsten Dunst admitted she likes smoking marijuana. In fact, she said “America’s view on weed is ridiculous” and the world would be a better place if “everyone smoked weed.” No wonder she likes playing the role of Mary Jane in Spiderman. Morgan Freeman: States he used Mary Jane to get him of hard drugs and will never quit smoking mary jane.' Its fucking Morgan Freeman. He played GOD. God would know whats best for us! IF those arent enough to get the population to take action what will? I
^^^ Yeah, if a celebrity bends over to pick up a piece of garbage, the media bashes them saying how pathetic it is. Imagine with marijuana.
Cool, you do that .. and when they bring out the dirt.. remember to grab your junk, and tell em to 'suck it!'. You're totally right.. remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks? They copped it in the ass for saying what the world was feeling.
fisrtly, im unconvinced that someone like snoop dog coming out for legalization would help, it might simply re-enforce sterotypes. You need smart and articulate celebrities with a reasonable image. Also, due to the stigma, allot of celebrities will be hessitent to come out for it unless they feel strongly (agents and advisors wont want them to. Nevertheless, Closer to the election in novermber i think you'll see allot more support as the campaign ramps up. People like bill maher are certain to do their bit, but also other public figures, ex judges and politiciens.
