  1. I got a new SSD last weekend and did a complete
installation of Windows and all my software
    and games.

That day, I downloaded 356GB of data. Wow.

  2. I remember back in the day when the processor was a blistering 25 Mhz, with a massive 150 MB hard drive. 4 MB of ram, crazy times.

  6. did mine the other day on my new SSD
up to then I always cloned a new drive to the old one, as I have just copied this new install to the old drive, to slam in place of the other, not if but when it screws up, very handy idea, I used some shit called
'AOMEI Backupper' double check everything as this bitch ate my 5Gb movie drive ...by clicking the wrong button ..!!! but had recovered most

    Dude. A 5GB movie drive? That's Quaint.
The Movies folder on my hard drive has 1.22TB in it.
Hell, my pictures folder alone is 19GB.

  8. I've had a 2Tb some years back but relized I'd have to stay alive another 200 hundred years to see them all again, so I trimmed them down to anything above 6.5 IMDB's score.
But in Truth I wished I hadn't done that as now I'm storing my latest vids on the streaming thing, rather than my drive

  9. Reinstalled yesterday, again.
Fixed my problem, but I downloaded 536GB of data in one day.
I just installed everything in my Software folder.

Fortunately, I'm allowed 1TB per month, so I'm not in danger
    of going over just yet.

  10. It's really sad that Linux hasn't made much of a dent in the PC market as there are live media options where you can be up and running without even having a hard drive in your system. Their robust community revamps many different flavors with updates and options to closely mirror the Windows look and feel and a fresh hard drive installation takes a fraction of the time and space the bloated behemoth that commands the lion's share of everyday user's experience. I highly recommend everyone to bookmark Distrowatch and do some tinkering to familiarize yourself with the alternatives.

  11. Yeah, but all the programs I've bought over the years are Windows Programs.

  12. Had to start from scratch tonight. Ran a program, and it Borked my install, with no way to recover it.
Started over with a different SSD. Had to open up the computer to install it.

  13. There would be no harm in dabbling with a USB based live distro; Wine is a Windows emulator which allows running many of those legacy programs you are reluctant to walk away from. When you get back up and running in Windows you could download Virtualbox and play around to familiarize yourself with how robust and useful Linux is. I've got a few dozen versions that I fire up and play with to satisfy my curiosity. I got a couple of old netbooks that never worked well with Windows that are blazingly fast running Linux.

  14. This SSD sucks. It's so slow.
It's an old one, so I've formatted the one I couldn't
get into and I'll reinstall on that one.

  15. just on the point of installing an M.2 ssd.(called M dot two)hard drive directly slots into the middle of my motherboard, they say is fast, ordered the motherboard from China and the rest, still waiting
