  1. People, please stop insisting that thc has to be "activated" by heat in order to affect you. This is simply not true, but the number of people who believe it is enormous. Thc is fat soluble. Leaving marijuana in a fat rich substance will create an edible treat. No activation required. Period. So get it straight. Please stop spreading myths about weed. There's already so much misinformation out there, it's up to us as a community to be knowledgeable about the effects and attributes of marijuana so that we can inform people.
     
  2. Its not a "myth", its called decarboxylation, it changes the THCA (the inactive acid) to THC. It happens naturally in the plant, but to get the best and most full effects in edibles its good to cook them.
     
  3. This is true, but as the process is a chemical reaction, the digestive process (in edibles) DOES breakdown the chemical into absorbent nutrients. It is common knowledge that decarboxylation occurs in the presence of hydochloric acid (stomach acid).

    this is why edibles work, but snorting doesnt (well it does, but not well, not at all, dont snort your bud...) 98.6 degrees is hot enough to activate the THC but the lack of convection will make it close to impossible to get the most out of your grass without corrosive acids... like the ones in your stomach and digestive process

    98.6 is NOT enough, as it will not make the COOH group evaporate/vaporize into CO2 and H20.
     
  5. without talking too much about my job, I am interning at a biochem lab until i finish my masters in biochemical engineering. I am SO happy to have an actual intelligent conversation on this thread. A lot of the control experiments that take place in the lab are random combinations of chemicals with certain proteins and amino acids in the body. When we test a chemical with say, tyrosine, we must also test the substance with tyramine (the decarboxylized compliment to tyrosine) , those experiments take place between 105 and 135 degrees F.
    Also THC does not "evaporate/vaporize" in the process of decarboxylation when it takes place inside the human body. I feel as though you think I was referring to inhaling THC, in which case you are totally right. I tried to clarify that by saying that you should not snort THC... thats retarded and wouldnt really get you high. Also Im not sure where you saw me talking about "breaking down an acid with an acid"... First off, it is entirely possible to break down the chemical structure of an acid with an acid, in fact our body counts on that fact for a number of different natural reactions that take place... but I dont see how that is relevant. THC in concentrated form is more basic and acidic. ANYWAYS, glad to have an intelligent conversation with you. Dont smoke too much weed :smoking:. peace.
