Reflector Material - Styrofoam

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by pootanging, Sep 7, 2011.

  1. I was thinking of using styrofoam as a reflector all around my grow. Anyone tried it? I am aware of the heat so i'll be using CFL lighting.

  2. I curious, why Styrofoam? You must have some you're trying to use up? I'm not sure if I would use Styrofoam because it's porous. If you get any disease, ie mites, mildew, mold, they will most likely stick in the pores of the Styrofoam. You want a surface that is cleanable after every grow.

  3. I'd just suggest white paint. IMO it's easier to paint a cab than to cleany cut and measure styrofoam.

As Phenotype said, styrofoam is porous. I have seen styrofoam grow mold before, it will also insulate your grow box which won't help at all if you have heat problems.

  4. Yeah i see both of your points, was just thinking it was easy and also i did have some laying around lol

I dont want to paint cause my wardrobe is new and expensive. Guess i'll have to use Mylar or a gift wrapper, or maybe thin white plastic sheets.

  5. I used a insulation material I bought at Home Depot. Basically it's bubble wrap with mylar on both sides. It might not be a good choice for those in warmer climates. But for me it's ideal....
