Reflective Material?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by frenchfries, Oct 16, 2011.

  1. hey GC i am currently building a micro cabinet grow box and im deciding on what to cover the walls of the cabinet with i have a roll of some windshield reflector stuff and i have a roll of that foil tape i just wanted to know which one would be best the windshield crap is alot harder to put in so i would want to use the tape but i don't want to create hot spots or make the temp in the box higher then it needs to be
    thanks

  2. Next time I would try to post this in the Micro Grow section for more attention to the thread. To answer your question use the auto shield stuff over the tape (use the tape where needed but as little as possible) The tape is Aluminum foil on the top and is bad for growing. I would also recommend to just spray paint/paint your cabinet flat white. It works very well and is cheaper and easier.

  3. thanks and does it matter what type of paint it is like exterior or interior house paint

  4. I don't know what I used. It just says "Flat white paint" check your garage and stuff wouldn't be surprising if you already have some laying around. If you go to the store just ask one of the associates for a small can of flat white touch up paint

  5. but does it have to be spray paint or just regular paint

  6. I used regular indoor flat white touch up paint and put it on with a paint brush. however I only didn't use the spray paint because of the strong odor.

Imho textured aluminum is the best reflective covering. It's also the cheapest and doesn't cause hot spots as more mirror-like coverings can. Most HID hoods use it for reflectors because it works very well. To cover the walls of a grow area with textured Al, get a roll of wide, heavy duty foil and tear off sheets that are a little bigger than the walls they'll be covering. Crush the foil into a ball but not tightly, and then very carefully unroll it. Try to unfold all of the edges as soon as possible because they'll tear if you try to spread out the foil before doing so. Smooth out the unfolded foil by setting it on a smooth, flat surface, placing your palms on it together and carefully sliding them away from each other. Finally, attach the textured foil to the walls with tape or tacks.

  8. im going to stick with the white paint it seems alot easier and looks nicer but thanks for the advice

  9. does it matter if it is flat white or can it be regular white i have some white ceiling paint and a shit load of other white house paint cans

  10. Could you use mirrors on the walls or would that create extreme hot spots
