I have a small closet area where I am building a grow room. I was wondering if covering the walls with aluminum foil would help reflect the light onto the plant more since i dont have any mylar and cant paint the walls. Help Pleaaassee!!
Aluminum foil is a bad idea. Mylar is not very expensive. You can get it here for $20... Amazon.com: 25' Roll Mylar: Kitchen & Dining If you can't swing the mylar, you can use an emergency blanket... http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_... Survival&psid=FROOGLE&sid=KDx20070926x00003a Or, the inside of a few chip bags. What is the color of your wall now? Good luck.
ill probably end up buying mylar i was just thinking if foil would work thatd be good but i knew it was a long shot. thanks mad4reef you always be answering my questions bro
i see you told someone to look at previous threads for answers to questions that have been answered hundreds of times. and then you do exactly the same lol
i looked around for a bit for the foil question and didnt find it. im sure its here somewhere. The other person was just being lazy when there is a thread that is called sexing.
check this accidential find. while moving and breaking down my saltwater aquarium i realized the material on the back of the tank was highly reflective. i went to the fish store and bought a roll of the mirror finish and am currently using it. i was using home depot reflective insulation but this is a much better affordable find. check it out im highly impressed.
Uuummm...I've been using matte white or platinum white paint forever. Mylar is a pain and needs to be cleaned more frequently. If you spray especially. I love the reflective of the mylar but....paint is cheaper, goes on quicker, doesn't allow anything to build up BEHIND it (molds or mildew) like mylar, and you can use a mildew resist primer under the platinum white. Gloss paint isn't as good because it diffuses the light rather than reflecting. Same with aluminum foil...diffused light. Ultimately you want something that is reflective not diffusing. I want to line my room in mirrored tiles!! Mirror tiles, color mirror tiles, mosaic mirror tile for glitz Maybe use blue and red mirrored tiles to get the perfect spectrums! NOOOOO! Waste of my time! Or wallpaper it with thin sheets of delicate metal!! That you will probably have to replace or sparkle shine soon! NOOOO! I DON'T! Waste of my time! hehe This is my personal opinion atm...I don't know even half of everything...maybe if I learn something about mylar that I don't know, I'll change my mind...so far...paint. Good luck! =)
I like flat white paint too. Mylar reminds of the below video and I'm trying to put the '80's behind me... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUjIA3Rt7gk"]YouTube - A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran[/ame]
Mylar is the best option if you are looking to actually reflect light. Foil doesnt actually reflect as much light as you think it does, mainly just heat and causes hotspots which will be obvious when you post pictures of your plants wondering what those little brown spots are all over fan leaves. Simple white paint would be the second best option after mylar. It doesnt reflect much light but also doesnt spread heat unevenly at certain spots causeing your plants harm.
I agree, mylar or Foylon is your most reflective choice. After that it's a flat bright white painted surface. Mirrors are less reflective, the light has to pass through and layer of glass and back and that absorbs some light. Aluminum foil also less reflective. Self-stick velcro tabs make hanging mylar much easier, you can keep adjusting until you get a mirror-smooth finish. And I'll disagree on the emergency space blankets, they have a mylar-like finish but they are way too thin and actually let light pass through (just hold one up to the light), so they too are less reflective.
omg... u just made my day toasty. I knew if I followed you around GC, I'd find some useful info to take back to my grow.
