Reduce Tolerance Without A Break

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by 1sttimegrow, Nov 12, 2010.

  1. Hi everyone,

I know there's always a lot of talk going around about tolerance and taking t-breaks.. but I've also noticed a common occurrence. It seems that people take a t-break to get their high back, but pretty quickly their tolerance goes right back to what it was before, because they go back to their old smoking habits. Beyond that, a lot of people are daily smokers and it's tough to break that daily habit. I just thought I'd share my experience with trying to reduce my own tolerance. I've been a daily, multiple times a day, smoker for probably about 14 years. I took a break once for 3 weeks and got suuuper baked the first time. But, like everyone else, it didn't take long before my tolerance was right back up to where it was before. So recently I read the article about "smoking less to get high more" and your receptors in the brain and I realized how true it is.. the times I've tried to smoke less, I felt like I was actually getting high on less. But I didn't realize there was a scientific reason for this. It now makes a whole lot of sense that ever since I started smoking in the morning, I wasn't getting high anymore. I was going to quit for a week, but then gave in after 1 1/2 days.. and couldn't believe it when I got higher than I'd been in years! After just a day and a half! But even that was difficult because then I just obsessed about it all day. So now, I've figured out how to reduce tolerance without quitting.. and then having your tolerance go right back up. Just gotta take out the morning smoke! I wasn't getting high in the morning anymore anyway, so it was an easy change. And now when I get home at night, and even still sometimes on lunch breaks, I'm feeling it again! It's taken a month or so, but all without taking a t-break.. and since I'm still smoking every day, my tolerance should stay lower.. every day! I just can't believe what a difference it's making just waiting until after work to smoke.. My eyes even get a bit bloodshot again! Hurrah! All I wanna do is smoke every day and still get high..

  2. yes this deffinitly works i used to smoke about a quarter a day for years and wouldnt even get high really.. just.. back to normal? haha:smoke: I eventually went down to an 8th a day and when i started getting into vaporizers (love my volcano<3) i only smoke like a gram a day now! i just spllit a gram between 3 sesssions because now a bag to the face will have me feelin fine and if im using my vapir mini i use practically no weed. saves bud, money, and i get superrr ripped its great

  3. I always had a feeling wake-and-bake can't be too good for tolerance levels. Specifically if you also smoke before bed.

Back when I literally smoked everyday all day (miss em) I would smoke before my first day of work of the week (two) and I noticed I wouldn't get too high then... So I quit smoking the days I worked, and those 1.5 days of not smoking helps with keeping the tolerance just low enough.

  4. so what exactly can we do to lower our tolerance? you say just smoke less per day? idk i read that and dont see what your doing different to make you higher off less. got a link?

  5. Not to be "that guy" but you need to use some punctuation if you expect people to read it.

I can't read a wall of text. Make a couple paragraphs.

  6. Smoke once a day

Like a bowl or two at night

  7. Yeah dude,
the later in the day your first smoke is, the better it seems to feel.
    Good post =]

  8. Isnt this obvious ?

If you wake up and smoke, your never gonna get as high the rest of the day, Its all about maintaining the high after that.....

I thought it was common knowledge that if you stay busy all day and not smoke, then puff in the evening you get way more ripped... however, due to medical conditions , pain etc , I have to smoke all day every day...

I say screw a "T-break" just dont smoke all day , that works wondered for sure !

  9. Here's the link to the article about how our brain receptors shut down when we smoke too much.. and so they don't respond to THC anymore.. when you take a break, they open up again and so are open to the THC and their effects...

Marijuana and the Brain, Part II: The Tolerance Factor

So the trick is to find a way to still smoke every day, but not enough to shut down your receptors.

  10. sorry no links i jus go off experience, heres a few tips you could try if you wanna cut back, mind you i usually smoke by myself nowadays and its usually some dankkk.

Ill pack up something small like my onehitter or just put like .2 into my volcano
take your time inbetween hits, like during commercial breaks or once you beat a level in a video game as a reward

if im smoking my bong in my room ill take a big hit to start off then once im feelin it wait a lil bit till i fancy another

dont keep smoking once you get to a decent level and when you come down you can light up again when your heart desires

i used to come down after about 15 mins after a smokesesh but now it last wayyyy longer.

hope this helps.. or at least makes sense to anybody, sorry a little blazed:smoke:

  11. Another way to assure that you get high off of less is to mix-up your smoking habits. Change where you smoke, when you smoke, and with who you smoke. Tolerance is largely a result of habits. When you smoke in the same place or with the same people every time, then your brain begins to associate these things with smoking. Then your body (being the little devil that it is) will drag you "down" in anticipation of the drug, because your body always tries to maintain a level of homeostasis. Therefor, you need to smoke more to get to the same level of high. This is the same reason most heroin and other hard drug overdoses happen not because the user takes more of the drug then they are used to, but because they take the same amount they always take but in an unfamiliar location. So try smoking in cool new places and with new people, mix up your habits as much as possible. This is an excellent way to get higher off of less weed.

  12. This. Straight up Psychology 101 shit right there guys.

  13. hahahaha the mind is a very powerful thing

This doesn't make sense, and isn't scientifically valid as a cause of developing tolerance.

Really? Thats why they overdose eh, set and setting?

It's actually your body shutting down receptor sites in the brain that are stimulated by the cannabinoids, trying to basically bring you down so you can still function.

This is why, if you want to get rid of tolerance, get high once a day.

  15. if you wanna get higher, smoke less bud...

    contradiction much?

  16. It's called a paradox.

And it's true, I've seen studies; THC in low dose is an upper, higher doses it becomes a depressant.

  17. tddr - too fucked up, couldnt reaad it. :smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke:

  18. it's all about moderation. You really just have to get a feel for when your feeling "it"

I havent smoked in a couple days now and my mind feels clear and ready to go :) I'll probably smoke tomorrow

  19. So I had such high hopes I had cracked the code and figured out how to drop some tolerance without quitting. Here I am 4 months later and I've finally come to realize I just gotta take a T-break. I even made an extra effort over the past few weeks to not smoke in the morning and at lunch and to only allow myself 3 bowls a night. Basically about half a gram a day. I typically average about a quarter a week, or a gram a day, so I thought this would really make a difference. NOPE my tolerance is just way too high. If I've already smoked, even THC oil doesn't do s*** for me. Cutting back did help a bit, meaning at least I could feel a little something again. But it's not even close to what I was hoping. So next week I'm going to try a one week t-break. I know it's not much, but I'm hoping it'll make a decent difference. I've come to realize you just can't cheat it. And after reading that it's considered a dependence if you continue smoking even when you're not getting high, it's clear to me a week off will do me some good one way or another. Thankfully, I've been dealing with this long enough that my boyfriend finally believes I'm not making it up! He's promised not to give me a hard time next week on my break. And honestly that was the hardest part so that'll help too! I was worried about going on a break because my bf and I have smoked together since we met and at first, he seemed to take it as a personal affront if I didn't smoke. Thank goodness he finally gets it!

  20. So last week didn't happen. My bf was going away for the weekend and didn't want us to be mad fighting all week before he left. I understand, because the withdrawal can be real evil. So now I'm taking a break until Friday night. We're taking a trip to see family this weekend so we'll see how it goes and if I'm not happy with the results, maybe I'll take the next work week off too. I've tried just cutting back, and I've taken 48 hours off before, but it didn't do much. If I can get to the point where I can actually get high again, I'm going to try to keep my usage low-ish so I don't blast off into "I feel nothing" again. I didn't smoke much this last weekend, so hopefully this week won't be too bad. I bought some natural sleep aids with Valerian Root and Melatonin, so hopefully my sleep won't get too messed up! Wish me luck!
