Happy 420 Holi's Everyone, Smoking some great OG right now... As much as Ive read I still find nothing on what to do after taking cuts from mother plant, should I give her B1 or liquid seaweed, what about the open cuts, will they be open for disease and pest? Is there something to apply to her for this? Anything else that may be considered please reply, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Manny Mota
Hello Many Mota More specific information on your set up i.e. If your cloning in rockwool, soil, or maybe a cloner? Would facilitate anwsering any of your concerns. To anwser a few of your questions you can minimalize risk of disease or sickness caused by taking cutting by sterilizing your cutting instruments and also using a AACT (acitively aerated compost tea) after you take cuttings. I'm a little paranoid myself about unwanted pathogens which could be attacking my girls! So I apply a AACT via Foliar Feeding to ease any fear of sickness. The micro-herd in your AACT will protect your plant from harmful pathogens. I use a combination of Kelp and capsicum. Capsicum is the "hot" in peppers. Black pepper for your dinner table, Chilli peppers, pepper spray! Anyways it works great in combination with kelp as a natural insecticide. If you sterilize yourself your plants and your cutting device you shouldn't have any problems! But why take any chances? Be super obsessive and love your girls any way you can! Never look back and keep striving for ways to make your grow better. Way to go asking for help. Enjoy a Tasty Beverage!
I clean my cutters in alcohol and thst's about it. LOL I only take clones about every fourth trimming. The other 3 are just to keep the host plant at a good size and the cuts get tossed. I do use kelp meal or tea on the host plants, but not in conjunction with trimming per se. Don't mess with the B1 at all. I also don't bother with the open cuts. They close up and heal pretty quick and I've never had problems with disease or pest. Major/thick limbs would be another story, but you wouldn't be cutting them for clones. Wet
Just treat the mother as usuall. Key is to try and take clones from older growth and if taking numerous clones do so over a period of a few days between cuttings and not all at once, which can cause stress in the mother.
Thanks on the aact do you have a recipe you can share with me, I make foliar feed spray with alfalfa, kelp meal, organic molassases, and liquid seaweed. Appreciate the info...
I didn't mean 'no' on the B1, only that I don't use it or have experience with it. My tea is very similar, but I don't do foliar much, only in emergencys. Wet
Manny, I've seen numerous ways of cloning to using an "aerobucket" to clone without any added rooting compound or anything. I've also seen a plethora of products used. Vitamin B-1 has been advertised as a successful rooting "booster" and "aids in foliage" but thats some ol bull. The Claim: "FOR MORE THAN 50 years, vitamin B1 (thiamine hydrochloride) has been touted as a cure-all for transplant shock. Labels typically claim that B1 aids rooting and growth of a wide range of plants." The Truth: "University of California research on vegetables failed to prove that B1 reduces transplant shock or stimulates root development. Researchers found "no discernible differences in color or vigor among treatments" when B1 and B1 plus iron, manganese, and zinc were used on peppers, pole beans, squash, sweet corn, tomatoes, and watermelons. Elsewhere, studies on chrysanthemums, citrus, and roses have reached similar conclusions." Can't go wrong with a spraying of AACT and sterilizing your tools. Much good advice above. Wgsuxx
