Recovering cancer patient...

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by MTheory, Feb 14, 2007.

  1. My mother in-law is recovering from breast cancer. Luckily the operations, chemo and radiation therapy seem to have gotten rid of it. She's now done with her treatment but she's still in pain. The type of cancer she had kinda feeds off of estrogen so she's taking some meds to suppress her body from making it. The meds make her joints and muscles ache really bad and that is the main source of her pain. Her doctors won't give her pain killers any more because she could become addicted to them. She smokes cannabis with my wife whenever they get together (only a few times a year) and it REALLY helps with the pain and just puts her in a better mood. My wife and I have suggested that she use it regularly to control the pain, but she doesn't want to because it makes her really tired and she has 3 kids to take care of (ages 5, 7 and 14). She's become weaker in general after all the chemo and radiation, so she's drinking coffee all day to stay awake as it is.

    Here's the deal:

My wife and I are going to be moving closer to her soon and I want to start growing when we do. I know Sativa strains have a more "energetic" high, but do they work as well for relieving pain? I'm a novice grower so can someone suggest a good Sativa that is easy and/or quick to grow? I was thinking I would grow an Indica to for her to use at night. Any advice on this matter at all would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Anything is going to help. Sativa would be great, it will keep her with an easy head high that will calm her nerves. I would suggest making edibles for her or with her so that A: the effects last longer B: you use less and C: She can take it with her to use in public or at work for lunch

Its situations like this that make wonder why the medical system cant be reformed. This is absolutely ridiculous that someone has to deal with such pain everyday.

  3. Awesome. Thanks for the reply. :)

  4. I just want to add that I think it's great you are willing to grow for your family to have medicine. I would reccomend reading the growing section whenever you have a spare moment at the computer. You can learn so much so fast from these people it's not even funny. I've given basic grow advice to people in real life and I've never grown a plant.

  5. if your growing to help someone other than yourself out, i commend you. you will get all the help you need from us. a little reading goes a long way. also i suggest buying some good seeds from an online seed bank (www.drchronic.com and www.cannabean.com are just two, and there are countless others, but cannabean has the best prices i think) as your yield will be way better, and the quality is great. good luck.
