Let's close the thread before a bunch of people storm in here arguing some silly ass bullshit nonsense about perception and reality. Let me stick this sign in here real fast for anyone who comes by to see it, And i'll just close the thread real fast, and be on my way... I've got bongs to hit. /thread
Im not deaf or blind so yes, but ask someone who is...they might say no. because who are we to tell them they cant see, for all they know u too are blind and lying to them(if they were born blind/deaf)..siiiiiiiiiiiick
that is really irrelevent to the question as it is asked....'is' there a cloud in the sky...well...yes, in all probability somewhere in the sky there is a cloud when deaf and blind people are born...it does not matter what they think or see or know...according to the question.
ask a blind/deaf person. he asked if YOURE born deaf and blind is there a cloud in the sky...u wouldn't know, all you would "know" is based on someone who can see, telling you what a sky and cloud is.
Yea but he's asking a person who would be born deaf and blind...what would their answer be?? they dont know, we say yes because we can see. This is kinda like that question "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
My question was more along the lines of YOU imaginging you're born that way. I believe that if you don't know it's there, it simply does not exist until you know it's there. See, all you people who say "yes there is a cloud in the sky", you say that because YOU know what it is. Someone born deaf and blind does not know what a cloud is. Therefore, the cloud does not exist in their reality. But see, people like to see it how it is in THEIR life instead of another. Is there a bouncy ball on the floor behind you? How do you know there is one? You're so sure there isn't one, that it becomes real. It becomes a fact to you that there is no ball behind you....until you turn around and there is one....or maybe there isn't.
If your in a coma, do you shit? Yes. You aren't aware of it, but it happens. The shit stinks, and it oh so deffinitly is there. Thought I killed this thing. Lol... nah.
you cant really get an honest answer here....because if someone was born blind and deaf, they probably wouldnt smoke pot, and they probably wouldnt be on this forum (about smoking pot) to answer your question. i have a better question. if a man in cambodia is traveling west at 3 MPH, and a man in British Columbia is dancing to a jaunty tune, do blind/deaf kids in china give a shit?
But if you're in a coma you don't know that, ergo whatever is and isn't is dependent on the coma. OP was going for a more existential concept, most likely alluding to alternate dimensions we can't percieve, e.g. being born deaf and blind and being unable to percieve clouds.
This thread is tilting on a very annoying subject to me and that is subjective reality. Some pseudo intellectuals like to argue that nothing is real unless you percieve it. No you mindless fucks, stop trying to come off as intelluctual, you know deep down there are things you know and believe to be true regardless of perception. Stop reading Descartes. He was simply confused about his sexuality. There is a fine line between perception, insanity, and the tangible truth. I leave this thread to rot
How does a blind and deaf person know of clouds? They can learn about them, but that doesn't mean they're there. Put yourself in that perspective: "Okay, these people are telling me there are white masses of condensed water vapor floating above out heads." All you have is word of mouth, and the rain. You can't touch, smell, or taste a cloud.
Any workable theory of reality must be, by necessity of language, founded on an absolute. To distinguish between objective and subjective reality per se is to misunderstand the nature of such theories. Perception is the unified physical phenomenon through which the world is filtered to everyone. Perspective is the element of an individual's perception which is unique to that individual's time and place in the world. There are many old philosophical arguments about whether or not the world outside us, or some parts of it at least are a result of our own projections, or if it might exist independently of perspective, or even perception as a whole. I think that while the thought experiment of a person not having senses brings up an important point about empiricism, it doesn't in any way imply that objects not perceived are non existent. SO....I think, and I think that most people agree, that since things like clouds can be measured w/ universally accepted methods and units and what not, that they indeed exist in spite of my ability to perceive them. So yeah, if a tree falls in the woods, it makes a sound, so long as "a sound" means, "a disruption of the surrounding area in the form of a particular wavelength and frequency". And if "a cloud being real" is defined as "a cloud being measurable and suitable for repeated observation by someone, (not necessarily everyone), then yeah, clouds exist, even to people who can't sense them. Fun stuff.
reality there is one absolute truth on earth. we are here. how we got to be here is debatable. but for everything to be so perfect so sustaining life has to have a high answer.
Then why do god and unicorns get such a bad rep? It's not about terms of real or not real in the collective, it's about terms of existence relative to a subject that lacks the senses to perceive said object's existence. The only evidence a blind/deaf person has of clouds is man-made. This person accepts that clouds exist based on faith. This is why when one tells Christians they're crazy they don't give a fuck, because they perceive something you don't, and vice-versa. I posted in this thread because I enjoy seeing TearDownGod (and others who quickly brushed aside thought for the easy ego-flex) backing the very same concept that proves the existence of god for millions of people: just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.
I realise that, h20. I just hate the whole discussion, so I was high, being snooty and facetious. . It's been raised 89 times since i've conceived of this profile, and it's nothing but a big talking circle.. It's the most sterotypical stoner discussion ever, really.. edit- We can't prove that we see the sun, or clouds or anything, other then word of mouth. thought of brain, and the sight of our eyes. You have to accept some degree of reality, or else your discussion is so abstract as to never have an end.
