Recommendations for keeping auto flowers small

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by eldeadheadmexicano, Aug 18, 2020.

  1. Hello, curious to know what the optimal size pot is in order to keep auto flowers on the smaller side. Also, any training recommendations. I have no experience with autoflowers but I understand they are already quite small. The strains are kush, california kush, cheese and amnesia. Ideally I would like a 2 feet or shorter. Reason is I have a big tent but only a cheap amazon 300 watt led. Also, I get confused because I see pictures online of tall and robust plants with huge kolas while some are really short and with fat colas. Purely genetics? Pot size? Training? The strains are kush, california kush, cheese and amnesia.

    Cheers, Tony

  2. genetics helps. My favorite small plant container is the 9x9 2.5 gallon bags from 247gardens.com. But 3 gallon bags are very close. My favorite short keeping method is mainlining, but you need a genetically medium or short strain to start with.
You can go to attitude seeds, and go to the autoflower section and select "short" in the filter and there will be hundreds of suitable candidates.
Mainlining autos is very systematic and keeps my plants manageable. However, I am finding the veg under pure 4000k is the best help of all.

  3. I do a few autos here and there in my little veg chamber to supplement between harvests. I keep them under 12" by just keeping them in small pots. I get probably 5g on average from them....lemme see if I can find a pic. yeh i dunno how to link pics anymore. Agdp_004

maybe a bit smaller then you were thinking, but you get the idea...that's with no special training or anything else, I just keep em close to the light 18/6. pots are 4"x4"x4"

  4. a mainlined auto will get 2x2. How high depends on many things, but in my experience, not bag size. My one gallons in some cases were taller than 5 gallons. Mis matching colder temps with other things created very small stunted plants. Under optimum conditions, in one gallon, I could do no wrong, and those plants were drinking me bone dry every 8 hours. So, in my experience, bag size is way down the list on contributing factors to height.
