Reasons that people believe in God and don't believe in God.

  1. Reasons Why people believe in God:

    - Most common reason is if Someone was brought up in a religious family. That's what brainwashing is... You don't have a choice. Cuz when your a baby, your a sponge; whatever your parents teach you is what you will believe...
    - If your someone who has had a tragedy happen in your life, and you don't know how else to cope. You NEED a Happy crutch "God". a sense of peace, happiness, and reason to keep moving foward. You may say "why is this a bad thing"? Well it's an unhealthy crutch to believe in a false hope no matter how reassuring it is...
    - If your someone who for some odd reason believes that luck, karma, and love can only come from a "higher power" just because you don't understand them or know how to explain them. Let me explain them for you:

Luck - luck is all in your mind. When we were all growing up, we've heard from media, school, and people that four-leaf clovers are lucky. because their a rare occurance makes people say that their lucky. So if you are able to find one, you think your "lucky". and whenever anything good happens to you, you will assume that's because of that "luck". even if you didnt find one, and something good happened to you, then it wouldn't be luck after all. It's all in your mind. Same with bad luck, if you walk under a ladder, you remember "oh hey! i was told this is bad luck!" that means you will try to avoid anything bad, but as a result in doing so, you will actually find something bad. then you will think bad luck exists if something bad does in fact happen to you...

Karma - Same as luck, it's all in your head... It was told to you growing up... So if you do something good for someone, later on someone may do something good for you... that doesnt mean good karma. Since you did do something good, most likely you will be in a good mood because you did good, So your good mindset will reflect on your behavior which will impact anyone who comes in contact with you. which may make them do good for you, cuz your a good person and deserve it. just like how you may of thought so when you did good earlier. Bad karma is just like bad luck, you will be scared of something bad happening to you, but really you would be running into something bad...

Love - Love is a complex mixture of emotions and traits... such as happiness, sexy, trust, respect, and the list goes on. Having all those intertwined creates an overwhemling emotion that is still somewhat hard to explain. But just beacause we as humans aren't 100% doesnt mean we have to make up an answer like "God"...
    - Some people do believe in a "higher power" but that doesn't mean "God" mainly just a "Force"...
    - Some people may of had a near-death experience, and they believe that they saw "God or "Heaven". Well if you were that close to death, that means your brain would of either been suffocating from the lack of blood or air or your brain could of been bleeding which would cause realistic Hallucinations, and since you were close to dying you might of thought of God or heaven which would of been the fuel for your realistic Hallucinations...

Reasons why people don't believe in God:
    - Someone who wasn't brought up in a religious family, or even was, but just didn't have religion forced on them. Like me for example. Then as you grew older, you learned for yourself and found your own beliefs. and most likely you became an Atheist or an Agnostic. Some may end up believing in God, but that could be because of what I listed above...
    - Someone who might of had a religion at some point, and believed in God... but later denied God because of a number of reasons:
    - no logical evidence of God
    - God has no interaction with our world or us.
    - The bible is flawed and contradicts itself
    - Prayer does nothing
    - Family or friends died, what's the point of a God if things like that happen
    - ect.

  2. I think it all boils down to fear. The dogmatic stuff anyway. Superstitions, that's wishful thinking.

  3. OP, your view of religion is very closed and limited. It does not account for militant atheists becoming devout to God or the indoctrinated becoming atheists at 30-40 years old when one is supposed to be set in such beliefs. Likewise I was never "brought up believing in karma", in fact I often questioned why so much bad shit happened to me regardless of how nice and serving I was to everyone, it was only when I found out what karma actually is that I started understanding it, and you should not use a word that you do not know it's meaning. It urks me as bad as any atheist to see some girl on facebook talking about "haha karma will get you back" or "karmas a bitch" when someone they feel has wronged them gets wronged, as if their rejoicing in others pain isn't wrong, as if karma doesn't originate in the thought more than action.

    Try again.

  4. Karma is not vengeance.

  5. I'm sorry but my view of religion and god is not close minded. I'm very open. i always teach to have an open mind. all my writings are my opinions but they make sense. dont they?

  6. i used to be a militant atheist but its just eh now. like why does people having that crutch hurt? i know with some emotional crutches its bad, but with a lot of exceptions religion usually just makes people happier. i know it causes a lot of bad shit but why demonize the whole thing? its like what they do to pot. i still dont believe in the god of the bible, or any religion for that matter, but i still go along when im in a public place and they do a prayer or somethin, still treat those people as equals. i dont look at them as weaker for using that emotional crutch, or less inteligent for not seeing the logical fallacies.

  7. You state your reasons quite emphatically - which is why it comes across as closed-minded. It doesn't seem like there's much room for manoeuvre based on what you've put, hence the closedness.

So, if you say you're view is open-minded, what is it you feel yourself? Or are those views your conclusions after all?

  8. Christianity > Atheism

  9. I highly do believe in what i posted. I have not concluded none of it. Im still learning as i grow up. nothing is set in stone.

  10. Don't you see? You say you believe in what you posted, but then you say you've concluded nothing from it. If you believe something, you must've concluded something from it in order to form that belief.

In order to be open-minded, there can be no conclusion, you see everything as being in a state of flux, open to change, so you're always learning, but if you believe something, in order to change, you'd first have to let go of that belief, or be persuaded out of it. Neither of which are actually open. That's why you may be more closed-minded then you realise.

  11. What i mean to say is that im not 100% and ive said that im still learning. we all are. sorry if im confusing anyone.

  12. doesnt anyone at least agree with my first post? doesnt it make sense? makes sense to me. Im not 100% that its true. but i do agree with it at this moment in my life. im still learning. we all are.

  13. Much of what youre saying has been hashed and rehashed on this board...just try the 'World is 6000 yrs old wtf!!!??!!' thread...youll see...lol

  14. it all makes sense yes. and thats really good that you realise you're still learning. idk how old you are but you sound on the younger end and a lot of the time younger kids get cocky and think they know it all. good job stayin away from that

  15. Am I the only one here who DOES believe in God?

  16. I'm 19. and believe me, im not cocky. and i dont know it all. Ive been told that ive matured better than most of my friends and peers. i just dont want people saying that i dont know what im talking about and that im close minded. cuz im honestly not. its harder for me to type my thoughts. its easier for me to speak it.

  17. lol..no...there's many people that believe in what is referred to as 'God' on here...might not be your typical conception of 'God'....as in the Christian idea of God...but a belief in a greater Being...many different beliefs throughout here...there are Christians too

Like I said..visit the "6000 yr old world" thread...somebody is always resurrecting it....on the first page...you will get a taste of how it goes...lol

  18. What it all boils down to is this, there is no empirical evidence to support any religion.
It is just as likely that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe as opposed to Allah or Yahweh. (or whichever god you wish to insert here)

  19. The way my life unfolds it's like God is telling a story.

Signs of a divine plan are subtle but they are there.

Having said that I have no confidence in organized religion. Not for one second do I believe that these people know what God thinks or wants.

  20. 1:either god jesus w/e is a the worlds biggest liar/thief/dishonest/untrustworthy mo fo out there or....

2:I'm going to rot in hell for eternity

    That's it
