Real Talk. DE 1000hps vs Quantum board YIELD

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by bittercoldoldman, May 3, 2018.

  1. So Ive dabbled with cobs and a few other LED panels, including Nextlights Mini which is as close to Quantum board tech as ive had, but always end up back with the tried and true 1000w Double End Gavita just for sheer yield per light/sq ft. Ive seen all the claims and watched a bunch of video, and the one reoccuring thing that sticks out is that while guys are seeing great numbers off GPW compared to the amount of wattage being burnt, I'm not seeing huge yields for the area or space being grown in though.

Example: Ive seen several grows with various cobs and Quantum Boards in 4x8 areas or trays, with lets say 1000-1200 Actual watts of LED, and guys are getting 1200-1800 grams of bud out of that wattage which is well over 1 gpw and doing so without much cooling
Problem: 2 DE 1000w HPS in the same area 4x8 ive personally seen over 3200 grams from that area and know other commercial growers who have seen more like 3600+ grams from that area...
I whole heartedly agree that these boards beat a 1000w single end hps running at roughly 600w of actual led...

So i guess my question or concern is why are the best LED grows with the highest GPW growing in such large areas with such low wattage.. Where are the LED grows pulling 3+lb of DRY bud off of a 4x4 or 5x5 tray... Not a hater, just want to see pics and here from those who have accomplished it.

  2. Thats a very good point. Im in the process of setting up a test for our uk manufactured versions of quantums. Ill be running 4 x 260w kits in a 5x5 space. Ill post it up when its documented

  3. Anybody got a solid reply to the posted question? I’m about to buy lights for two rooms and Ram super confused by the opposing LED vs HID question.

  4. if ur running in tents or tight quarters with ceilings of 8ft or lower, do the quantuum boards or phantom photons or Nextlight... if ur running a open room with 9 ft+ ceiling height and multiple lights, AND U CAN HANDLE COOLING then do the DE 1000s. DO NOT but the old screw in 1000s with air cooled hoods...Current LED tech does shit on those...Ive still been hard pressed to see any LED rooms beat a well dialed in DE 1k when theres multiple lights involved and them 1ks have a good 3.5 ft of canopy clearance.

Quality wise though its getting pretty hard to deny LED produces a frostier, usually more colorful product.

  5. I think one also has to look at the VOLUME of area used as well - with a lot less overhead using LEDs (I'd suggest strips rather than quantum boards) vs DE's, you have to potential to stack two trays in a 10ft ceiling area and double the yield per sq ft, no?
