Re-Intro after 2 years

  1. Hello Update...I am now 65. I never got the nerve to try my weed. Original post

Fear stops me every time I attempt to try a small toke. In Iowa there is CBD oils avail without a card. But I have heard it does nothing for severe nerve pain.

Since original post in 2017 I had back fusion surgery that has resulted in constant nerve pain. Dr. renetly put me on a cocktail of Oxy and Flexeril as the pain can be too much. (the meds work but leave me hung over and I fear addiction)I refused a nerve spine stimulation implant that the Mayo recommended.

Is there a handbook for elders who want to smoke again? Any groups?

(Still sober, but I tempted to have a few beers.)

    Peace

  2. I'd look into microdosing to start out. The comfort of knowing cannabis isn't addictive helped me when I was a new toker. Knowing it won't kill you etc is comforting while you're newly high as well. My best advice is not to try it until you rid the negative worry/feelings about it first.

I think cannabis could help you greatly. Ease into it. You may get uncomfortably high the first time, but you'll never ever feel that high again.

  3. First of all, good to meet you - I enjoy a cross generational culture.
I don't know what to recommend personally...I'm in my 30's...I guess what I would do is just take it very slowly. If you're looking for some medicinal kind of uses, consider getting yourself a mid/high quality herbal vapouriser - Almost anyone will tell you that vaping hits you in a much kinder/gentler way - I personally find a lot less of the paranioa/anxiety kind of feelings are there when vaping vs smoking...though this could just be me.
Edibles are also amazing for pain, and have helped a friend with nerve pain, and another with hernia pain...you can make them yourself and adjust the strength with some experience. You can also look into getting CBD specific edibles (or making them if you had access to a few select strains), not much of a high but all of the other good stuff.
Just look, do it in your comfort/safe zone. Have some food and entertainment lined up..if you can do this openly among family and/or friends, then have someone with you if you can for your re-intro, or at least someone on standby...just have a night of it and line up your distractions.
Honestly, good luck and I hope it plays out well for you...check in and let us know how you go, ok?

  4. Hey there, I’m old, errr... I mean over 50.
I wouldn’t sweat it. Whatever happens, good or uncomfortable, it’ll stop shortly.
    Good luck

  5. Mid 60s here and I've used cannabis nearly my entire life.
3 rounds of Colon surgery 8 years ago screwed me up but good. Yes it likely saved my life but it left me in considerable pain.
High doses of THC shuts down that pain like flipping a switch. CBD does nothing for my little issue.

Your in the right place for elders who want to partake.

  7. Thanks to everyone who has replied.
I will no longer look into surgery and live with the severe nerve pain in my back and down the left leg.
My doctor said she would only give me 30 day script for Oxy which has expired. She will not do narcotic pain management. She has referred me to a doctor who sign the Iowa Medical Cannabidiol application and will consider Oxy pain management. One or the other)

I do not know how I could afford the Iowa "Med Pharm" CBD products that contain THC.

Only 3,000 Iowa Medical Cannabidiol cards have been issued.

As I said I am 65 and well versed with 70's drug usage. Someone said don't start until I am not worried about paranoia. I did Acid in 7th grade until I had too many religious-based bad trips. It then started when I smoked pot or hash. I had to start. Lat time I tried I freaked again about end times. So, some young people may not understand all the shit we did. (Bactine huffing). All before 16.

My head is in a much better place. Became Buddhist in 2012
I am a drummer and take drum lesson as well as midi work with ProTools.

I am scared to try. I am getting the feeling that I want to drink to cut off the edge left from Oxy. ( 7 years sober)

I don't think I will have an issue getting it, but I have no clue the strength.

    Amy Iowa 60+ ers here?

    I would love to talk.

  8. Don’t drink friend, think of your 7 years.
My partner takes oxy ir and dr. I wish she didn’t.
Hang in there brother. We’re here for you. I’m “only” 53 but I’ve seen enough for 103 years.
    I wish you the best.

  9. I don't want to loose my sobriety.
If I have to take Oxy with or w/out dr. it will be mid step as I figure out CDP/THS - Bad trip issues.

  10. @Amerika60

Cannabis could really help you and I hope you can get past the worries that are stopping you. I personally think it’s a shame when religion gets in the way.

I’m a few (10-ish) years younger than you but the only freak-out from Cannabis unless you’re using powerful Sativas or high dosages of edibles is absolutely only in your head. With 99% of today’s cannabis, if you were to simply start slow - take a good toke; hold it in your lungs, exhale and see where the one toke gets you I’m guessing it could be a life changing deal for you.

Please burn the Oxy script and don’t look back.

I know too many folks that have found the relief they needed like it sounds like you do with Cannabis - it cannot and will not hurt you so I highly suggest putting your fears aside and simply starting out slow.

I’m pretty positive you’d be pleasantly surprised at the relief (and enjoyment!) you’d get from low doses of Cannabis smoke - and would most likely be kicking yourself in the ass for putting yourself through the pain needlessly the last couple years - but it’s not too late...

    Best of luck.

  11. hi there ,,like i said i my first post in your thread, i was on oxy for 11 years ,started off with 10mg twice a day then upped to 20mg twice a day ,,,i realized in the end it wasnt just the spondylosis( i cant take other or even milder painkilling tabs because of the blood pressure and anti-clotting tabs i take) causing my pains the oxycodones were making me more sensitive to the pain as well ,,Dr was no good at all ,he just wanted me to up the dose ,,thats why i finally said to mt self no more heavy opiates ,,and started to cut down eventually cutting out the oxys ,,it was hard but after i realized how i much better my mind was oxys kept me awake most nights with my brain working over time, now its great to how my mind back and not under the grip of oxys. ,i learnt that opiates are not much good for constant nerve pain ..weed helps keep my focused now so does just growing a bit of cannabis ,,,i wish you luck in your pain management ..mac,
