RDWC grow / rootfarm trial

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by strangegrower, Dec 30, 2019.

  1. Decided to grow some bagseed. Unfortunately unknown genetics. They popped around 12/2 - 12/8. I'm using ( I can feel the energy ) advanced nutrients sensi grow pH perfect. Using clay as medium. Tap water with AN. Without ph'ing water it's low 8. I use a filter to attempt to purify. A Brita filter. After filter around 7 to 7.4

I began seeing this last week and it started to seem to try to reverse. But the damage is done. Bottom set of leaves look rusty colored. And are crisp to the touch.

Lights in use. Mars hydro sp150 @ 26 inches
    Also a lenofocus LF100 @ same distance.

Using a tent with 98% reflection supposedly. Just giving details. Trying to figure out what the def might be. I'm thinking mag. But it also looks like it could be a cal issue.

I'm asking because I'm not 100% sure. Any help is appreciated.

  3. Set the res to ph5.7 with 300ppm of veg nutes mate.
Let the ph drift upto 6.3-6.5 then bring it back down to 5.7.
Gives you the best range for nutrient uptake.

  4. Thanks guys! Had me a bit worried there for a bit

  5. Yeah she’s not in any danger like. Just sort the res out and she’ll fix herself soon enough. Hydros easy man. Just set the res right and they grow themselves.
Go light on the nutes. The trick is to keep the ppm of the res dropping a little as the plant feeds. If you go up like 100ppm every time it starts dropping you’ll keep it pretty sweet :)

  6. The ppm dropping makes the ph behave itself as best it can too :)

  7. Yeah I've been thinking about that. Thanks. I have one around here somewhere. Just need to grab some new cells for it.

Okay guys. I finally found the meters and bought some batteries. Ph is wayyy to high for rdwc. Thing is reading 7.1! Might need to re-calibrate it. But the Ppm meter is showing 307-308ish in the res, and 170ish from the tap ( filtered )

  10. Got some ph down coming to help correct this ph balance issue. I'll update when I apply and see the babies react. This city water is killer.

Thanks @HardDrive & @Spanish@rcher Got some ph down coming. Attempted to use lemon juice, but that will fluctuate to often. From observation there is like a 4-5 hour window with lemon juice. Then Ph will raise again. And from a previous grow a while back, cant get to carried away with lemon juice. One of my last ones from a while back ended up locking out some nutes because of the frequency. Prior to me finding my ph pen. Ended up with nute def. End result the stem turned purple smh. Could have been genetics, but never know with bagseed.

Thanks again guys. I need to brush up a bit more, been a while. Found the grow bible as well. Hopefully it'll help further my knowledge on what I already know, and don't know. Along with checking with you guys in the community. Can never say you know everything. Growing is a humbling craft. Just takes time to fine tune.

  12. 20200112_133407.jpg Plants are coming along. Had to adjust the pH. Drifted to high 6 range. Developed some def. But definitely helped they're trying to bounce back. Thanks again guys

  13. Yep, municipal/city water comes with ph buffers which means the water will "try" to maintain exactly 7.0. Even with proper PH down you'll need to keep on top of it.

  14. Makes sense. I have to adjust it every 2 days or so. Still check it daily. I appreciate the guidance in the right direction

Well just to update you guys. This was what I got at harvest from some decent bag seed. This was the result of using the RootFarm system. Plants went a little longer than I intended for them to. Wanted just a little more weight. I hadn't weighed this just yet, but it should be a pretty decent dry weight. Added a dollar for size reference. Could have done better if I had been more on top of things earlier. Had to kill one, was a boy. But aside from tha... Glad I came here when I did. Thanks again guys
