Raw Trim To Add Terpenes?

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by jaredm25, Jan 13, 2023.

  1. First time grower getting close to harvest and thinking ahead to my edibles processing. Terpene profiles are important to me for specific strain effects so my concern is knowing many terps start to completely break down chemically at even moderate temperatures how much of them really survive decarb? Doubts about the sealed container approach because if they are chemically destroyed there is nothing left to be "reabsorbed" into the flower. Perhaps some here have actual lab results of end product to quantify terpene loss after certain processing methods. One option I'm considering is adding non-decarbed raw trim into my infusion to restore the original terpenes. Of course infusion itself requires heat so I'm not certain how effective that would be unless the oil offers protection. Curious on thoughts and experience as I'm not yet finding much info on this from a home grower perspective.

  2. As far as saving terps, use this decarb chart. I use a sous vide and a sealable bag. The lowest I ever did it was on 130° for 92 hrs.
It was a very nice buzz , very nice and very tasty. I just got a nova fx,
it does a very nice job too but alot quicker.

  4. i use a coffee grinder for all my trim and small buds only sugar leaves no fan leaves i have about 120 grams in a sealed jar and when i burbed my jars today the smell was there but not as potent as the buds and when i decarb for my oil i only go 15 minutes and trust me the terps stay there my brownies smell and taste awesome

  5. Ah, low and slow for the win. Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't run across anyone decarbing with lower temps but this makes sense and I'll try at least one batch this way.

  6. So little to no active cannabinoids and still noticeable therapeutic effects?
I know cannabis in general is essentially a super food with tons of health benefits so I already use fan leaves in various recipes, capsules would be another option for a natural daily supplement.

  7. So perhaps terps survive the heat better than expected. I might still try infusing a batch with raw sugar leaves in addition to decarbed flower to see if there is any noticeable difference. Without easy access to a lab in my area it's all going to be based on my subjective experience in the end, of course that is really all that matters anyway.

  8. The ultimate best imo, is the 4 month natural decarb in everclear.
Then ,after 4 months, let it naturally evaporate with no heat. We have RSO gold:thumbsup: .
It Is Delicious and a clear headed buzz.
I bet if you make this with raw it'll be great . Then mix raw and decarbed RSO together . That imo is full spectrum :)
