Rapid Root Growth? With Pics... Help plz..

  1. So i have some pictures to better explain what is going on here.

It is day 8 of my grow with my two strains White Heaven (White Whidow x Blueberry)

And Fugu Kush Moto Friends favorite strain he made. my turn to perfect it.

I was watering today and noticed something funny.

I checked for soil runoff and saw a root pokin thru the bottom of the slits i cut in the cups.

I was wondering if this is critical and could hurt anything during transplant etc.

And id imagine i shouldnt touch the root at any times.

    Here are the pics.

How old is your plant, rapid root growth is never a problem. The plant usually focuses on the roots first so it can sustain the foliage and soak up water for photosynthesis. I would venture to guess yours are about 5-7 days old since they sprouted? If thats the case your absolutely fine.

I just saw 8 days old, i never use slits in my solos for that reason because when you transplant you probably will rip the bottom of the root off, next time poke holes in the bottom I use a screw press in and turn, i make 4 outer holes and 1 in the middle. Try to make sure the root isnt hit by light and if you can delicatly get that root back in the cup because without water it will turn yellow and that section of root will die.

  5. these pics were takin on day 8... and the root hasnt had water for an entire day today and its still white, i water till runoff and that root poking outta the bottom really could only suck up runoff..

but when i do transplant and if it does break the root. the whole plant wont suffer too much will it?

and you said to not let the root see light? why is this.

Nah it wont suffer too much but the longer you leave in that cup the bigger the root will be under cup which will be bad for it cuz the bigger the root you break the more stress it will cause but it will still be ok like i said try and tuck it back in the cup or when u transplant cut the cup in half with a razor so you dont have to pull the soil out at all. Light is bad for roots not sure on the science behind it but think about it logically, roots are in soil underneath the ground they arent meant to see light, the more light exposed the worse off you are. This will turn the root yellow then brown slowly killing it, I think its a combo of light drying out the root and the air sucking the water out of it. Either way its bad. Just in case you dont get the cutting the cup in half comment start at the top of the cup cutting vertically downwards ( make sure you dont press the razor to hard you will cut soil ) once you reach the bottom cut horizontally along the bottom where the slit is by the root then cut up vertically to the other rim of the cup, this way you can just pull the cup away from the soil without harming the roots.

  7. Much appreciated brother, and yeah that was the only logical explination i could think of also, the fact that roots dont see much light in their lifes.
(Stay in a dark area for a while, then go outside where the suns shining. hurts your eyes?) haha only thing i oculd think of.

But as of today man. i just got outta work and checked the root, just for shits n giggles i checked them all, 7/8 of them have roots poking outta the bottom at this point. Im just gunna have to mcguiver them outta the cups without hurting the roots thats all.

Its now day 11. or 10.. how much longer do you think i should have them in the cups for and under that shop light.

I really wanna get them put under that 400w but without streching and without burning..

so i dont mind waitin a few extra dayz

    Thanks again bro

  8. I will look at my chart one second... i would say anywhere from 10-15 days mine was 15 and was prob a little late.

  9. AH yes roots comming out of the bottom of the cup. I'm actually experienceing this as well with my 3 gal pots. Every 3 days there will be like 15" of root system hanging from each bucket. We water every 3 days and pull the roots off each watering. These are extra and a hassle to deal with. They are caused by letting water sit in the tray after watering your plant. As long as you keep pulling these roots off every 2-3 days it won't hurt the plant. But if you let it go for months and then try and trans plant your going to risk chopping off half of the roots the entire plant has. This will kill your plant =(

    Happy growing!

    Peace Love Happiness Forever!

  10. Ok your wrong the roots coming out the bottom is in part that but mostly because of being rootbound. I dont know why you would even intentially cut roots off. Its not ideal but It wont ruin your grow but i would never cut them off.
