Well 5 minutes before I gotta leave, so I will edit and finish later. Everyone is making a common mistake when it comes to this Genre of Rap. Calling Lil Wayne, TI, and Three Six Mafia rappers. They arent, they are hip hop artist. Most of them dont write their own lyrics, most of them use a Premade recording for their songs. Infact listen to a couple CD's of them, and you hear the same things, with different Metaphors. You ask what is this difference? Let your ears decide. ahem...lol sorry to tell you fox but i believe you have them backwards...rap is TI and lil wayne and stuff...hip hop is like...nas and atmosphere and yeah...
yeah dude hip hop is not lil wayne and TI. hip hop is a lil bit less mainstream usually with real beats and real lyrics about real shit. not about how much money you have, what cars you drive, how many bitches you can get, etc.
no way there is A HUGE difference between rap and hip hop... check it. HIP HOP: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeKoDCHdAag]YouTube - Prince EA and Wax: "Get Busy"[/ame] RAP: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=740d8sTpM7U]YouTube - Lil Wayne - Lollipop: BET Long Version, Closed Captioned[/ame] best rapper alive? lol
GTFO with calling Lil Wayne rap. All of his shit is an orchestrated song. Lil Wayne is the leader of Anti Rap. And FYI, Brotha Lynch Hung, Immortal Technique etc, they are what you call underground rap. Rap: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsT8FaZnzdE"]YouTube - Biggie smalls - juicy[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrRNkaxgESk"]YouTube - Tupac Shakur (2Pac) Broken Wings[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBBBhQUl99w"]YouTube - The Roots - You Got Me[/ame] Underground Rap: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DujH8ZmeYUo"]YouTube - Brotha Lynch Hung - Rest In Piss UNCENSORED[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qggxTtnKTMo"]YouTube - Dance With The Devil - Immortal Technique[/ame] Hip Hop: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSh_Oc78A4o"]YouTube - Lil Jon - get low music movie ![/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk1PcWnv72c"]YouTube - Lloyd - Get It Shawty (Lyrics in description)[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEccxPPwXmI"]YouTube - Kanye West - Flashing Lights[/ame]
I personally, dont mind the newer Hip Hop......some of it. But what pisses me off, is that people who didnt listen to late 80's early 90's rap, call this new shit rap. It would be like somebody calling Nickelback, Metal.
Go read the other comments retard. Bkush said Hip Hop is less mainstream. Less Mainstream is considered Underground.
Dude when I think of hip hop I think of songs that actually have good chill flow over beats that have some substance. Also, hip hop lyrics are actually creative and mean something. None of the above describes TI, Lil Wayne, ect.. I just label those as bullshit fake radio rap.
lies... if someone tells a story about themselves, that didn't actually happen to them... because their story is really personifying them as someone else (someone in the position/situation of the lyrics)... that can definitely still be hip-hop. 2pac and biggie both rapped about tons of shit that didn't personally happen to them... but in their songs they would represent the black population even discussing experiences that weren't theirs to discuss. now, obviously tons of people consider 2pac and biggie "gangster rap"... but you just can't deny that that shit is hip hop at its finest, for the most part. every song packed with: emotion, revealing weaknesses, rapping from the heart. that's what hip hops about, if you ask me. and that's what big and pac were about. i have the spins from drinking/smoking... i think i'll be ok though. hopefully my post as a whole made some sort of sense
thats one of the most accurate statements I've read here. Hip-Hop is the realness, the true representation of ghetto culture that speaks from the perspective of struggling to rise above those things that have divided and conqured us as a people.
Yep, the OP definitely has it backwards on this one. I think it's widely known that the mainstream pop-ish shit out there like TI, Soulja Boy, Lil Jon, basically dudes concerned about the money rather than the quality of their music...people who will do whatever their label tells them to do...that is RAP. Hip hop can be described as the exact opposite. AKA "everything before the year 1995"
Then if thats the case, shit like Lil Wayne would be considered Pop. Mainstream has your views screwed. It wasnt Hip Hop in the 80s and 90s, it was Rap. NWA=Rap, Tupac=Rap, etc. Thats the way it was.
