Raising PH

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by canada 1424, Sep 5, 2023.

  1. Hey there everyone, I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction. I had an issue with my ph probe and was reading higher than actual value. My run off is in the low 5’s and I am in pro mix HP. Is there a way to raise ph without flushing? Have read dolomite lime works as well as baking soda. I am close to flipping and don’t want to if there are issues in the root zone. Have noticed some cal and mag deficiency on leaves. Any advice would really help.

  2. Yo man, I’m glad you posted this. I literally just fixed my very high pH with citric acid powder. (Just only use a little bit because it goes a long way.) I brought my tap water from about 8 to 5.8-6 with barely an-eighth of a tbsp. Go to Walmart look in the aisle where they have the mason jars. They use this stuff to can tomatoes. I am in 100% organic soil. I don’t know what medium you’re running but it’s a great way to lower ph - just use it sparingly

What kind of medium are you in bro? I am organic soil, but I’m sure it can work at anything. It’s only citric acid.

  4. I’m trying to raise my ph. I’m in Pro mix HP and it is around 5.3 trying to get it up to 5.9-6.0. I will keep that in mind if I’m trying to lower though. Thanks for the quick response.

  5. Oh shit. OK damn I guess this Rosin is really good. Totally miss read that my bad dude I’ve heard sodium carbonate can work well for raising. Luckily, I had to lower mine because my runoff was like above eight.

  7. Make sure your water/nutrient is ph'd to 6.5 before giving it to the plant. Over time this will bring ph up......unless you are overfeeding.

  8. No not over feeding, feeding at 75% recommended dose 2 times then water once. Have had the nutrients mix around 6.2-6.5 but my ph probe was not working properly. Therefor was watering with a low ph. Have a new probe and pen and drops now so test with all 3 before feeding. Don’t want to have that happen again. Appreciate the response.

  9. Depending on your region, you may have hard water, which contains a lot of calcium carbonate. Check you local water quality report (ie. online) and look.
The concentration of calcium carbonate is related as alkalinity. If its the case that you have hard water, use the tap water to raise the pH in the media (ie. flush).
If not, you can purchase some pH up, or purchase some potassium hydroxide, or even some calcium carbonate.
If you are running organics, you can use ground up sea shell, or even eggshells for this.

  10. i have the same exact problem i added some dolomite lime as a topdress and started watering with a ph of 6.5 but i also flushed my medium first but i dont recommend flushing just keep a close eye on them

  11. That’s funny I did just that today. I think I went a little light though. Mixed 1 tbs to 5 gallons of promix. Think it was supposed to be 1Tbs/ 1 gallon. Thanks for the reply

  12. I didn’t flush though. Didn’t want to wash away nutes and cause any extra stress.

  13. I would top dress or add to water and water in some dolomite or ag lime. This will correct the pH issue as well as providing magnesium.

  14. you can add silica to your water first. Let it sit 15 min before adding the rsst of your nutrients.which should include 1 tsp/gal of calmag any brand.
