Hi all, I was given 2 northern lights seeds last night, wich have now germinated I put them in some seedling compost (with all the shit taken out) and Perlite. Water the cups about ten mins before droping the seeds about an inch deep and covering. I have put clear plastic baggies over the top of the cups to keep moisture in and placed about 1.5inches under my 125W Envirolite in my 2.5ft W x 2.5ft D x 7.5ft H thing I built. Temperature is at a constant 26 above the cups and 24 at the base of the cups. Questions: Can someone please tell me the best ratio for soil/perlite please? Do I put them on 24/7 untill they sprout then switch to 18/6? or can I go with 18/6 straight away? Thanks for any response.
i use 70% soil with 15% perlite and 15% vermiculite and always have 24/7 light until flower but each to there own
i use a 3 to 1 ratio with foxfarms soil. I add 3 scoops of soil for every 1 scoop of perlite. I wouldnt add too much vermiculite as it can induce root rot but if u do plan to, just stay within moderation.
Well, looks like you spent alot of time on that foil, however foil wouldnt be the best thing to use. To maximize your potential, I would switch to flat white paint, mylar, or emergency blankets. Good luck!
Thanks a lot for the info dewd, I'll get down the Hydropincs shop tomorrow morning. I was thinking about the PVC stuff thats white on 1 side and black on t'other, is this any good? Thanks for the help, +rep if it lets me....... it let me dewd
awww c'mon that foil looks great n reflects pretty darn good .... sure there are better things, but for the budget minded ... this will suffice ... there is no absolute need for the high$ mylar..... there are dollar stores in my parts that sell silver wrapping paper thats really thin mylar.... only $1 for a roll if you can find it ..... i also go 50/50 with ANY soil n perlite...... there's my 0.02 good luck ..
Thanks for that Lemmenischnikit, I am on a VERYtight budget at the moment. I did use the not-so-shiney side of the foil to try and avoid hot-spots. However, I still cant see anything happening (and they germinated so quickly), so it looks like i'll be getting some more seeds later, and prob painting the room white. +rep for your 0.02
i think you might have put em' too deep ..... i only go 1/2 in. deep ... if you're already ready to throw in the towel on them ... you might dump one out in your hand n see if it's infact NOT doin anything..... n if it still looks relatively healthy try n re-do it closer to the soil ..... dont break the tap root though....... northern lights is great smoke .... id have to try everything till i figured out why there not growin' do you have exp. in the hobby?
No experience at all mate! We'll he's given me another 2 seeds! (what a geeza!) I've wraped 1 in tissue and wet with warm water, placed in a baggie and wrapped in light-proof black plastic (bin-liner lol) and placed in the growcab (like last time). This time I'm going to let it germinate longer, last time the tap-root was only JUST comming out about 1mm(guess I was too eager) The other seed, I have just placed in a party-cup filled with 75% seedling compost and 25% Perlite. This time the seed has been placed NO MORE than 1/2 inch down. (I figured, if it dosent germinate by itself, no harm done, I can do it later?). The room temp is at roughly 26 degrees and the humidty between 40% - 50%. Should I put baggies over it to raise the humidity a bit. I have gently moved a little bit of soil off the top of the 1st 2 I planted and left them under the light and am hoping they'll start to do something now. Does this sound ok?
Woohoo! the first one I planted has spouted! Its standing straight up about half an inch tall with 2 little leaves stretching out to the light. When should I take the plastic baggie off? The soil is still quite moist so it dosent need watering yet. I'm so fecking chuffed! Should I start a grow log if things keep going as they are?
I've got to go out now, and wont be back till tomorrow. I hope they last their 1st night on there own. Ive switched to 18/6 to save on the electric, do you think they'll be ok?
