Questions on lighting for 44 plants

  1. Hello,

Just signed up today so thanks in sdvance for your help! I am setting up my 10x12 foot grow room with 22 matures on each side - 44 total. I was thinking about doing either (2) 600 wat HPS lights on each (4 total) or (2) 1000 watt HPS lights on each side (4 total). My big question is what will be the price difference on the electric bill for the two lights?

    Thanks !! :D

  2. It depends how much you pay for electricity, but if you paid .12/kWh during a 24/0 veg the price difference would be about $140/month, and during 12/12 it'd be about $70/month.

  3. To calculate:

    1) Multiply light wattage x number of hours running per day x 30 (av. days per month)

    2) Divide by 1,000 to get to kilowatt hours

    3) Check your electric bill for your kwh rate. If it isn't printed there then divide the amount of your last bill by the total number of kilowatt hours consumed during that billing period (that info definitely is on your bill).

Example: a 600w HID on 18/6 would burn up 324 kwh per month (600x18x30÷1,000)

Last electric bill was $150 for using 1250 kwh, that's 12¢ per kwh ($150÷1250).

    324 x 12¢ = about $39 per month to run that light.

  4. Thanks!

I was just looking at my electric bill and just got off the phone with them...

In San Diego, there are tiers of electricity usage...
My Baseline is currently 498 kWh and I pay $0.62
then 1-30% over baseline is $0.83
    then 31-100% over baseline is $.19 !!!!
and then more than 100% over baseline is $.22 !!

    IS this normal?

    thanks again for your help
