questions on drying and curing

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by jasem, Mar 4, 2019.

  1. my friend told me that I should cure the buds in darkness just like drying. is that a thing?
should I keep the jars in a dark place?

Also, I dont know if my buds have dried properly or not. It has been 2 weeks since I cut the plant but some parts of the stem wont snap, they bend as if inside the stem is completely hollow. That means that it has not been dried yet right?
strange though, cuz humidity is 40% but they havent dried in 2 weeks.

  2. if I smoke the bud, and it feels still a little wet while rolling, that also means that it hasnt completely dried right?

  3. keep a low light on the buds during the dry to prevent mold.

  4. this one stem bends completely, it doesnt snap, but the buds are crunchy! it's confusing me.

some other branches with this girth snaps but some thin ones dont.

I put the buds inside a tv box, my closet has some little spiders, and I dont have any other proper dark place inside the house.

I put a mylar blanket on top of the tv box to prevent the light. obviously there is no much air flow inside the box(I dont know if its good or bad). I take the blanket off at nights but i dont know if it makes any difference.

  5. really?shoudlnt drying take place in absolute darkness?

  6. if the smaller buds are dry, like really dry, and the stems are still moist, you might want to clip the buds off the stems and get them into jars before they get too dry, or just leave a bit of stem to help with curing in the jar.

depends on the bud sizes, stems, etc... there is no hard and fast rule. just some suggestions

  7. would it be a problem if I put the buds in the jars before they are completely dry?

  8. not as long as u keep the humidity in the jar good. like between 50-60%.

    Most ppl shoot for 58-62

  9. if your buds have been off the plant for 2 weeks, i'd start clipping into the jars yes

you want them to have a bit of moisture for the curing process.

my last harvest, i hung to dry for 4-7 days in total @ 40% humidity. again, depends on the bud size etc..

burped the jars daily for the next 2 weeks, 3x a week for the next 2, now once a week

beauty cure if i do say so myself!

  10. Lots of good videos on YouTube that may beable to help. I’ve learned so much over the last year of watching and trial and error with my own . Get it into jars and just make sure you burp them a couple times a day. May need more or less depending on their moisture for 10 to 15 mins at a time. I am far from a professional but just what I’ve done and has worked out just fine. Also I have herd to keep it in the dark as much as possible but no idea if it’s teue or not. Maybe try a jar in the dark n a jar out on a stand or something n see if it makes any difference

  11. if I take a bud and want to test if it's dry enough or not and grind it in order to smoke, and it's wetter than the buds that I usually smoke that means the bud is not dry enough correct?
I took a piece from a branch that was drying, and rolled it, it's noticeably more wet than the regular bud that we smoke.

  12. best way to tell is to have the buds in a jar with a hygrometer and it will tell you after 24hrs in the jar, what the moisture content of the jar is.

    good read here

of course, if you can roll it and it smokes ok that's pretty good too but not all the buds will be the same
