I know this stuff is really simple, just feed the worms. I've made a few bins and they're doing fine. But I've made a couple different kinds of bins to see what works best. The problem is I don't have enough worms to get any info from for a long time. My motivation to start vermicomposting came from a podcast from kis organics with Clackamas Coot. In it he describes a good worm bin as compost or manure, kelp, neem and malted barley. I mean more or less, I'm not quoting him. So i did that. But now I've just got this tote half full of compost and worms and I can't imagine it's going to just turn into work castings. *I guess my main question is what are the worms going to do with the compost? Do they turn it into castings?* I started another bin with shredded paper and very little compost on bottom and shredded paper on top. I pull the top bedding off and feed them kitchen scraps and the kelp barley alfalfa combo, then put the top bedding back on. I made that bc I wanted to see worm castings.
Here's one more very helpful thread for you to read through. Converting to Vermiculture Based Gardening
Dude thank you guys. For whatever reason I have very poor results when I try to search for threads on here or other forums. I know these threads are out there but I cannot find them.
Be warned I used to do this until the neighborhood found out, I went on holiday and the worms were stolen, by the locals who then went fishing ...lol keep them secure ...lol
There’s a lot of discussion here in the Organics section and great reference materials in the book/pdf thread. Those castings are what you want and the worms eat the food you put in as it breaks down.
If you take a walk in the woods, look under the dry leaves on the forest floor. All the way down to the dirt. Black as coal isn't it? And that's just from years of leaf rot. Just think if you added all natural stuff. Wouldn't hurt to throw in some dried cow droppings.
Omfg dude! Dude looking through that list of all those papers and articles for me slightly emotional. I cannot believe everything I'm trying to learn is in one place like that. I’ve got years worth of reading here. Thank you so much for sharing this link. I already downloaded like 30 of them before I realized I can just come here and get one as I need it. I have the hardest time finding great info like this. This is a game changer for me. Thanks again.
You're welcome. This link is a good jumping off point if you're interested in learning more about organic gardening. Growing Organic Marijuana
I found another gem in there. I had made it to that area of the forum before but never saw the Organics higher learning link. Or I prob saw it and thought (rightly) that it was beyond me.
Hello there, first of all, I apologize as English is not my native language. My main question is regarding the use of vermicompost for my marijuana plants. Do you think I can use my homemade vermicompost for the growth of marijuana?
Yes, you certainly can - and it is recommended that you do! Most of us here have our own worm bins and use our own vermicompost for growing marijuana.
