So I have been considering growing for some time, recently got enough money to do so. Aviditi PTU-66 Mylar Reflective Hydroponic Grow Tent,48-Inch Wide by 48-Inch Deep by 79-Inch High: Amazon.com: Patio,Lawn & Garden That is the tent I am going to purchase. My question is, can I still use pots and soil in a hydroponic tent? I am probably going to use hydroponics on a future grow, but for my first I would like to just simply use soil. Another question, how can I properly ventilate this? Can I just have fans within the tent, or must there be an intake/outtake? I'm just wondering how a standard grow tent operates pretty much. Anyone who uses them could help? I would appreciate it a lot!
No such thing as a "hydroponic tent" All tents are the same what you put in it is up to you. You can put a table in it, pots on the ground, box filled with kitty litter etc. How do you vent is is with a inline fan and ducting. All depends on the light your using. Basically you get one of these http://www.htgsupply.com/Category-Fan-&-Filter-Combos.asp You dont have to have a carbon filter but it filters out odor. You can hook the filter up to the top with the straps your tent should have then ducting to the light if thats the kind of light you have either way the ducting then goes outside the tent to the fan which pulls the hot air and odor out of the tent and pumps it out to the outside world.
Okay, I've chosen an inline fan to purchase. Do I only need one? It seems that this takes air out, but how does air get back in? Thanks for the previous info! Helped a lot.
We live in a pressurized atmosphere. Its why when you open up a can thats vacuum packed you hear a pop its the Earth at the altitude your at equalizing the can to whatever pressure your at. Air is sucked out and comes in through the tent. The tent is not air tight...its light tight but not air tight....theres a difference. You will see your tents sides be sucked in thats a sign of negative air pressure. Means nothing is going out but air is being sucked in. If it was a vacuum then then tent would collapse in on itself but its not. You can open a flap at the bottom or not up to you. I open one vent down near the bottom of my tent just one and it aids in cooling...I can feel the cool air coming below. Yes you only require one fan but what size thats on you. How much you wanna spend and how much heat your generating. Put in a 1000 w HID system and a 4 inch inline fan wont cut it.
Once again, very helpful information! I've got a six inch fan and a 400w HPS, does that sound reasonable to you as far as heat goes?
