Questions about 3000k qb288 v2 in a 2' x 3' x 5'high grow space

  1. So I ordered a kit from hlg, I got 2 x qb288 v2 boards 3000k with one double heatsink. I bought the boards and heatsink only kit to see if I could source a cheaper driver, I ended up spending the same money as their complete kit ($330) but instead of getting the HLG 240H C2100A that comes with the complete kit, I ordered HLG 320H C2800A instead. After reading a thread where someone mentioned that most people run qb288v2 boards at 2100ma and how it's rare to run them at 2800ma, I got nervous that maybe I should have just stuck with HLGs complete kit. I know efficiency goes down but I was looking to get around 300w from 2 boards.

My question is will running 2800ma really heat up my grow space of 2'x3'? Will I need a fan on the heatsink? Is this to much light for my space? Sorry I'm a novice.

The reason I bought the boards in the first place was because I have a 4 COB blurple that says 4x200w cob but the 4 drivers inside put out about 40w to each COB. And the last harvest with this light was slightly underwhelming due to the buds not getting as dense as I would like. I figured this was due to the fact the light I was using was not of a good design for my purposes. The 4 separate COBs were set inside a case with reflectors and created 4 spot lights at closer distances, but too close creates light burn. I couldn't get a nice even spread of light, and when I moved the light higher it had poor penetration. Another problem I was having with this light was that it had 4 fans running inside the case that blew hot air around the tent and it was difficult to keep temps down especially in the summer. Lastly that blurple color gets a bit annoying anytime I wanted to see the progress of the plant. I attached some pics of my current light[IMG][IMG][IMG]

  2. You are going to absolutely LOVE the QBs. I run 2x QB 288 V1 boards in 3000K in a 32” x 32” tent and it works very well. Very smart to get the 320 driver. I wish I would have done that.

I wish I had one of those COB lights — I would totally rebuild it with some CREE CXB3690s and upgrade the drivers inside the case to push them a little harder.

I struggled with temps at first, but then I rewired my QB light so the driver sits on top of the tent instead of inside it. It made all the difference.

My HLG-260 is on the right side of this pic.

  3. youll be fine with that driver, youll be able to push the boards to about 145w each an still have headroom.

    nice choice

  4. Awesome thanks! I felt like it was the right choice but seeing the so many of same setup paired with 2100ma had me second guessing myself.

  6. That was totally my intention when i went online to research what I needed to upgrade the COB light to vero29 or similar. Then I came across the QB while looking for advice. The qb on paper seemed to eliminate the reasons I don't like the COB setup for growing. Uneven light spread, noisy fans(that I upgraded btw to the quietest fan in that size and its still noisy), and the way it's designed in the case makes it heavy and cumbersome to adjust. Btw I've experimented with all kinds of cheap light setups over the last couple of years and only choose to buy that COB light bc it was the best choice at the time for my budget, and I also intending to upgrade it. I'd gladly sell it to you

So I need some help I got my 2 qb288s up and running and unless i turn the dinner all the way down i can't get my tent temps to stay below 86*F , current setup is a 2'Wx3'Lx5'H tent with vivosun 6" exhaust fan on to over heatsink and middle window open on side of tent , any ideashow to cool better?

  8. Since I can't get any answers this is what I did. I put a pc fan on top of the heatsink and moved the light even closer to the ceiling of the tent, I also opened both lower windows of the tent and the temps stayed between 75F~77F for 24 hours I think this will be how I run the whole grow.
Btw I'm growing Fastbuds Gorilla Glue Auto Fem, and will be using 24/0 light cycle and growing in pure rockwool. Please chime in if anyone has a better light sched for this plant[IMG][IMG][IMG]

  9. I have a similar setup. Mine is a 2’ x 4’ tent. Same light. I have it raised as high as it will go. Temps holding at 86 degrees. Plants love it. If you want to bring temps down, get a little inline 4” or 6” booster fan on your intake. That will bring it down a couple degrees.

  11. The plants can handle higher temps with qbs than the HID lighting.

  12. My flower tent had a heat issue to solve this I bought a spare 6 inch filter fan and run it vertically to lights and sucking in cold air directly onto top side of lights keeping them cold, when I did this I needed to upgrade my filter and outgoing fan to move more air to avoid pushing the smell into living space and potentially alerting the entire neighborhood of my grow
