What's the point in transplanting from small to gradually bigger containers. Can i just start 'em up in the container size i would like them to end up in?
Yes you can - and that's a great way to grow clones... but if you are starting with seeds, it's a huge waste of soil if it turns out to be a male. Hence, the transplanting from small to large. Another reason for transplanting is water/moisture control. If the roots stay wet for too long they will dampen/rot. Using a smaller vessel allows the soil to dry quicker than in a larger bucket. I'm really high so hope that made sense....
