Question regarding my rec

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by Chief477, Apr 8, 2022.

  1. I have recently turned 18 and got my rec from a local clinic in California (the actual paper itself, signed by the doctor). Although most places just give out recs, I noticed that on the form I filled out, it mentioned "parental consent is required if your still in highschool", even though I am a legal adult. It mentioned that I have a month to provide parental consent or a highschool diploma. I feel that this is criminal on their part as me being 18 defeats the purpose of parental consent, and every other clinic in the area doesn't require such tasks. In fine print it mentions the doctor may cancel the rec if no consent is provided within a month. If for any matter my rec gets "cancelled", can I go to another clinic and get a new one / start the process over?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. You need a license to smoke pot in cali? What in the fuck?

  3. @dropinbiking To clarify- if you are 21 or older, all you need is a government-issued ID (driver's license, passport or DMV-issued ID card) to gain entry to a dispensary. Names are not noted, only the date of birth and if the ID is valid. Those under 18 need a medical recommendation and ID.

@Chief477 I've never seen that particular stipulation before on a MMJ rec, and I went to several "pot docs" until cannabis became recreationally legal. On the other hand, doctors may use a different form for those under 21. :confused_2:

However, it is likely just a "CYA" move on the doctor's part in case an outraged parent decides to try and sue.

If I were you, I would buy enough cannabis to tide me over for a while, just in case the doc does cancel after a month. You can legally buy a ounce per day, plus concentrates and edibles.

And yes, you can get a MMJ rec from another doctor- just like you can with any other medical problem. And ask around- prices can vary!

  4. Ah okay I gotcha, I forgot legal age in US is 21? That makes a little more sense.
