question on scrog undergrowth

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by Tonywax, Mar 14, 2012.

  1. Am I supposed to clip all the fan leaves on the plants that are underneath the screen?

  2. under the canopy, where light lvels are low trim them, this will focus growth to the top of the plants

  3. Tony, there's an interesting thread on rollitup about defoliation. If you have time, it's a very interesting read.

The only way you'll benefit from reading it is going in with an unbiased mind set. It's a very controversial subject, but I think the personal accounts of defoliation experiences prove to look like the method is somewhat effective!

In my experiance it all comes down to wattage actually.

With enough wattage, you can get penetrating light through the ScroG.

In my experiance, even with out Scrog, you can end up with a "Dead Zone". Under my 400 I make a habit of keeping my plants under 3'. I just find it a waste of time to pick through any of the junk you get after 2'-3'.

Under a 100 though I've seen quailty almost 5' away, not great but worth it.

Trying to increase my yeild I ran ScroG in a perpetual grow for almost a year, with a harvest every 3 weeks. In truth my best plant I didn't trim under the ScroG. But....most of the fans under said Scrog, didn't live past mid flower.... (Thumbnails are of this pant)

What am I getting at? Feel free to cut some of fans if you want. Let us know how it works out. As long as you arent going at it with a weed-whacker, you should be ok:D
