Alright so I'm just going to throw this question out there, see what happens. So there are these people; all around me all the suddenly - peircings and brandings and tatoos.. I don't get it. Fill me in. What's the big deal about getting a heart brand.. To me it seems dumb. However I like to have people give me their side of the story, so if you have a peircing or branding or something tell me what it is and why you got it, if you would. -Alex
i have my lip peirced because my ex wanted it and i kept it because the bitches love it. other than that i dont understand them either man. lol

Why not? That's fair. I asked you guys to explain yourselves, I can too. I've never had a tattoo because tattoos are relatively permanent and to justify to myself on getting one, I would need to subscribe to something that I was sure is just as permanet. For instance I'm not going to get a naked lady on my leg because 50 years down the road (hopefully) it'll still be there and maybe I won't want that kind of image, my ideas and ideal's change all the time so why commit to something now that might change in a day or two, or a year, maybe a few. Alright.. What is he expressing?

I have piercings bc I want them, I like how they look. I like the pain. I have tattoos bc I like how they look, I like the pain. I have lots that have no meaning, actually 3 of my 4 have no meaning, I got them bc I wanted to. I plan on getting a lot more, some with meaning, some without. It's art, that we can carry around on us. I would like to get branded. It's faster than scarification and if done correctly could look amazing. Idk why anyone would have a reason for anything other than we wanted to do it. Later on down the road, at least I'll have something to show people I lived life. I might get tattoos that express how I was that time in my life, I'll always have that memory attached to it.

He might be expressing something, but I'm not going to put words in his mouth. For the piercings I have gotten there really hasn't been much of a reason other than "why not?" as Laura Marie said hahaha. For my tattoos, they represent either beliefs I have; a connection to my friends, family, or heritage; or simply appreciation for art and beauty. Sorry if I misinterpreted some of your posts as being antagonistic.

Its just something to do. And most of the time it looks good I have my lip pierced, Both of my nipples, and my ears stretched to 1/2 inch all for no real reason.
Have one ear piercing, no brands and no tattoos. Never really felt the need for more piercings but may get another in the future (ear only), a brand would have to be really sybolic like from a frat or something, and been looking for the right tattoo for years but havnt found it yet. All this stuff lasts forever so dont want to end up with a tat of a monkey jerking off on your forehead for the rest of your life...cant imagine explaining that to the grandkids sometime down the line.
My "canvas" is currently clean. Once i get a job though. I won't be so "clean" I would imagine getting a brand would hurt soooo fucking badly though.
alot of people get tattoos for very personal reasons, they serve as a constant reminder. for example, im getting a tattoo in memory of my dad who passed away this summer because of his alcoholism, and i want to have a reminder to never let myself fall to the same fate.
