Question for all the Pro-Government People

Discussion in 'Politics' started by HongKongPhooey, Aug 2, 2017.

  1. What happens when a "crazy person" takes over what do you do then?

Communism was a GREAT idea, until Stalin took over.

I just think it's funny that people want government takeover of healthcare, to give up their guns, etc. But then hand the reins over to an "elected" official, like Trump....

Why? Makes no sense to me

  2. What makes no sense to me is equating Stalin and Communism to healthcare.

  4. Communism was a great idea until it was put into actual practice.

  5. I don't think being pro government is exclusive to the left. Just look at the US and the reaction of the right to any criticism of government actions - military, police, etc....

  6. People are evil and stupid, that's why you need a government made up of people are evil and stupid

Two separate ideas(but connected by government)Communism took over healthcare no? So very applicable. They wanted the people to be government and what they got was Stalin.

When big government takes over health care, and a crazy person takes over, what do you do then?

Like how you didn't answer the initial question though. Nobody crazy would ever take over right?

  12. HKG Phooey, the US has about as much chance of going communist as being invaded by the invisible people that live on the moon. Instead of using "crazy person" as the perp, try using the term "special interests". The massive wealth created by banks and corporations want to control our government for their own benefit and by and large they have it. Can you name anything recently that republicans have done to help the common man? Just the opposite, they want to take all our regulatory and social programs away with the empty promises of wealth trickling down from our saviors in the giant corporations. Face it, with a few anomalies, corporation's purpose is to create profit for themselves and their stockholders. They love large labor pools of the unemployed, it's helps keeps wages down and increase profits. Your welfare is the least of their concerns.
Big Don promised many things but in the end, he has filled his cabinet with authoritarian figures and Wall St. Talk about being suckers. LOL

  13. I think very little about Canada. Maybe in a few years, I could retire to some beach front property along Hudson Bay after global warming has turned it into prime real estate.

  14. That's very visible here in Germany. You probably heard about VW owners getting fucked over emission values. While American Vw owners got a lot of money back German diesel owners have to fear losing their car and maybe their job or business in the process. That's what happens when money crazy assholes come to power

  15. this is so wrong on so many levels. Maybe you should move outside your cnn/msnbc echochamber and see that life isn't that bad, and the economy is actually doing fucking fantastic right now. That money absolutely comes into the common mans hands.
If you follow the MSM's line of thinking, the world is crumbling, the US is a laughing stock and our country is racist, and whatever other catch word they wanted to use that day. Thats what they want you to think. Go talk to somoene who has money invested in a 401k for retirement and ask them how they feel about what trump has done for the US in a very short 6 months. I know my IRA is through the roof right now.
The communism was brought up in the original post because socialism leads directly to communism. Advocating for the government to have MORE control over your life, and TAKE MORE OF YOUR MONEY to pay for everyone elses care is fucking stupid and counter intuitive in my opinion. And it directly leads down the road to what we can see in venezuela right now. If you only open your eyes. Socialism DOESN'T WORK.

  16. And yet people still don't understand how this wouldn't be an issue to worry about if government wasn't as huge and bloated as it is. It's easy to corrupt a large government, and it seems many people who disagree with our government now, want to give it more power and authority over our lives (healthcare) as if that would somehow rid the government of corruption.

  17. Excellent point, and it's well worth reflecting over. Why do we so confidently hold these strong opinions on how to dictate others' lives?

    Culture is everything
I've come a long way in my opinion on this issue, thanks to the breaking of illusions. I don't put much stock in anyone from CNN, but I try to separate each individual thought from the larger brands, and there is one article by Fareed Zakaria which hits the nail on the head for me. It's not a newspaper article in CNN, but an article in a foreign affairs magazine:

Culture Is Destiny: A Conversation with Lee Kuan Yew on JSTOR

Culture is destiny. This lesson was drilled into many of us in Europe following the massive influx of a culture that is diametrically opposed to our own. Even concepts such as gratitude and vengeance, which you'd think were universal, take on completely different meanings through the lense of culture. How can a culture that, for instance, views women as worth less than men, honor a democratic society where a woman's vote counts just as much as a man's? It's a massive barrier to overcome, I think the USA learned this lesson in the middle east. Some people don't want democracy, they want theocracy. Others want a communist oligarchy. Some want a clan-based, inter-trading tribal society. Some prefer total submission to a dictatorial strong-man.

Norwegian culture and why it's good for socialism
Here's where I'm going with this: Your principles should pragmatically conform to the culture in which you exist. Is social democracy a good thing for Norway? Yes, because it's based in a long history of pragmatism and egalitarianism - and I'm making a 200-page post into two sentences here - our elites have been wiped out every 100 years for a millenium, be it black plague, danish invasion, swedish supremacy or geographical distance, our people have been forced to be at the same step on the societal ladder for so long that it's natural for us to consider each other equals. Thus, we're primed for a socialist state with strong borders and strong internal welfare.
Sweden, which has a similar system, but an entirely different culture and history, are breaking under it. Same system, different parameters.

    Different culture, different political view
I vote for a center-left party in Norway. Lotsa tax to the government, but hey you fuckers, that money Norwegians are paying into their welfare state, that's for Norwegians, not for everyone else.
I would not vote social democrat in America, I would vote small-government classical liberal, whoever the fuck represents that. Ron Paul still kicking around? He's got my ear, and in USA, he's got my vote.
In Germany, I would lean towards CSU and the general philosophies of Sigmar Gabriel, which is more to the right (still left in USA terms), given the state of the nation.
In Sudan, I would vote for whatever gave me the most freedom to build up my own clan, defend it, and I wouldn't extend that charity outwards until my own clan had food, medicine, and safety. Family first, until it's safer to expand. Then we can start shaking hands and offering you grain.

TLDR: Culture defines what soup you swim in, and therefore what political view you should espouse. 'Be formless - shapeless - like water. When water enters the cup, it becomes the cup. Be water, my friend.'

  18. well funny you say that. Its libertarianism, but now its considered "alt-right" for reasons of easy slander and dismissal of ideas.

  19. In the USA, or somewhere else?

  20. Libertarianism is anything But alt.right.

Alt right supports authoritarianism.. Fast.. and often violent solutions to social problems.. Duterte.. Putin.. Pinochet.

Libertarianism supports individual freedom. You could be a man wearing a tootoo with a face covered in tatoos smoking cr... by the beach and you would have the right to be left alone.

Libertarianism also advocated open borders and free trade. That is.. Provided you can support your self with a job.. You can enter a Libertarian country with no visa.. Come and leave as you wish.

Of course.. Many libertarians are really conservatives.. Who simply like the idea of people getting off their asses and working 9-5..without complaining about low wages.. Unless its an Immigrant.
