Question about weed and having blood work done?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by carrie2121, Mar 23, 2016.

  1. I'm going to have some blood work done next month, as requested by my psychiatrist. I've already looked for answers for this but they seemed to be kind of mixed? Anyways, I just wanted to know if they will be able to tell that I (heavily) smoke weed, and if so, will they tell my psychiatrist/will she be able to see it in the blood work results? Looking more so for answers from people who have been in the same situation rather than a guess, thanks!

  2. Is it for viruses ? Or testing what's in your blood and looking for chemicals

  3. Nope. I've had blood work done several times. First of all you really should be telling your psychiatrist you smoke. That's your business but if you are really wanting help them you need to be honest with your caretaker.

If you are really that concerned then ask next time what type of tests they are asking for. Pretty simple.

  4. Thank you! This makes me feel better. I've only met with her once and the topic of smoking did not come up, but I'm hoping I can stop being an anxious mess and open up to her about my weed use because I do agree she should know. I was just having some (pretty silly) anxiety over it being in the test. Again, thank you for the answer!

  5. They are not going to arrest you. They may adjust your meds if they know you are self medicating with pot. You need to be completely honest with your docs in order for them to treat you properly.

  6. Unless they are doing a drug test which is highly unlikely as they're your psychiatrist not parole officer lol, they won't know you smoke weed, they specifically have to search for drugs, not just ponder upon cannabis in your blood. Ask them what test they're doing and they legally couldn't tip you off to the law even if they wanted to. Anyway hope I put your mind at ease

  7. Just wait until you are ready to tell her. It took my wife a couple years to tell her psychiatrist about her weed usage and she was shocked her doctor was not only supportive but was interested in how it affected my wife. (All positive)

My wife uses mainly for migraines but marijuana being what it is helps her with her pains from prior surgeries, helps her sleep more soundly (one thing she was seeing the doctor for) and helps her deal with anxieties (the main reason for her psychiatrist)

What you do and what you tell your doctor is suppose to stay with them otherwise. Going for anxiety and having a test right away is a mind tripper so just relax even if they really did test for drugs nobody would care and you couldn't get into trouble.
