I've already topped my plants once but I'm wondering is it only for the main cola that splits into two or does any branch split into two. If I prune a lower branch will it stop there or continue into two?
Yes, it will split in two and now you will have two plants fighting for the same light. Best is to top the tops, now you have 4, then top those 4 and you will have 8 even buds. But to answer your question, it's called lollipopping. You remove the shoots coming off the main branch. It is a cruel process. With just one topping and now two main stems your best solution is to scrog those two stems. You then wont have to remove much, only below the screen. Just keep the main stems tied to the screen. All buds must start from the same place. And that goes for whatever method you use. LST, mainline, or scrog.
Yeah but I did some LST and some of the lower branches are even with the main tops I just topped my two main tops on all my plants tonight but theyre already about 2 feet tall. I'm just now envisioning what you're saying was confused at first. Damn I'd hate to waste all that lower growth, but I guess I could turn them into clones. I get the concept for more energy into yield. Very interested for next grow. The ones I topped were already almost 2 feet except like two Granddaddy Purp that are still a foot tall and I never topped those but I did tonight. It's been about two months in veg and was thinking about doing one more heavy feeding and flipping in a week or two. Should I continue to top to get 8, I don't think I have time, or should I just leave it at the 4 is it too tall to have 4 tops at 2 feet? Another question is how much space will this take up per plant? I have a 11×8 grow room and 15 plants. About 10 are regular though so probably a few will be male. Might breed a male and female or two in the basement for seeds. Is the PVC frame the best way to hold up the trellis net or is there some kind of poles that would hold up in four corners of the room without damaging the floor or ceiling. Is there a way to post photos with my cell phone on here?
My opinion is that if you top everything yes you double everything but you definitely don't have to. It may even things out better or have other benefits but for the grow I have now I only ended up topping the mains. However last grow I topped everything . There's definitely benefits but it's up to you. I believe @greenmonster714 is the guy that doesn't top at all for his scrog
It depends where you prune the branch and how many nodes are on it. You can have a branch with 20 nodes and cut all but 7 nodes off. Each of those nodes will grow a new branch and you will have 7 branches. If you cut off the entire branch (all 20 nodes), there will be no more branches from that spot. And so you know, in veg, every leaf will eventually grow a new branch at the base of it. The base of every leaf is essentially a node. Personally I like to top plans leaving 4-12 nodes and then flower them a couple-few weeks later.
