Question About Nutrients And Whats Best For Beginners

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Ryder Run, Jun 5, 2013.

  1. I'm germinating right now and I'm starting to research ahead of time. I just need someone to hold my hand when it comes to what nutes to use and at what stage (Weeks? Time?) to use which nutrients. I've read over several different forums and everyone has a different say on which is best.

With that being said, my idea that I'm thinking of trying is this: (But I still need hand-holding when it comes to when I should use which nute at what time?)

I'm going to be planting in 2 parts FFOF, 1 part FF Light Warrior, with sprinkled perlite throughout, and a bit of dolomitic lime.

At what stage from sprout do I start first phase of nutes? I heard the FFOF in-soil nutes will last me at least 3-4 weeks, so that only gives me roughly 4-5 weeks until I need to have my shit together.

The nutes I PLAN/PLANNED on using (Researching leaves me going "well, maybe I SHOULDNT use that..") were: The FoxFarm Trio: Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom. In all honesty, I've read that this is the line-up for beginners/newbs. I've heard that Advanced Nutrients line-up was "better for the more advanced grower", my thought process was "Use what you know, and since I know FF soil works, I'm assuming the FF line-up will be solid as well.

The other thing I was planning on using was AN Bud Candy. And before anyone starts with the "USE BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES!!! RAAAAH" It would make me feel more comfortable using something that is made for plants on plants than something that is made to eat. It may very well be "snake oil" has several people suggest, but I've heard good things and all in all it makes me feel better to know it's made for plants.

Also, is it worth it to also get the FoxFarm Cha Ching, Open Sesame, and Beastie Bloomz? I haven't researched these guys as much and I want a bountiful harvest, but for the money/risk of plant burn/bigger yield ratio... What's the best bang for the buck without overdoing it or fucking me in the long run?

SO, with all of that being said:

Those of you who agree with the FF Trio + Bud Candy = At what time and stage should I start introducing the nutes? And which is first (Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom... tends to get confusing)

Those of you who don't agree with FF Trio + Bud Candy = Why? What would you suggest would be easier/better/more beneficial?

The strain that I'm currently growing is 5 bag seeds practicing for the Fem. Auto Purple Ryder I have on the way from Attitude (Made it past customs, YES!)

Any help, comments, suggestions, and feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much guys!

  2. FF trio isnt that bad. you can use Big bloom and the grow big during VEG. And big bloom with tiger bloom during flowering. Once your girls are about 3-4 weeks you can start giving it to them in 1/4 recommended on the bottle and then move up. never used the Bud candy so i dont know. I like how you said no molasses because its not made for plants. But its better to put chemicals on it haha?

  3.
We put chemicals in our chicken to make them bigger and we eat them... lol :smoke:

  4. haha doesnt mean its good. I was big in to the foxfarm at first since i read some good stuff about it. Still dont think its bad but im going organic next time.

  5. sorry as well if i came across rude with my first post. I havent slept in almost 48 hours(not because i havent been trying) and i get grumpy.

  6.
Nah man, I didn't take it as that. Actually, when I read your post I tipped my head to the side, shrugged and said aloud "He's right..." lol...

  7. haha okay cool after i posted that my wife was like you need sleep your getting grumpy. I'm not here to be a jerk like some. I want to learn and help others. So just wanted to make sure.  Trust me at first I was like WTF when I read molasses haha.

  8. Amen brother. Yeah, I've read alot of people use blackstrap molasses to sweeten the buds instead of Bud Candy. But I've read some people have had success with it and some people have ruined their crop. So I wasn't wanting to take any chances.

  9. I recommend Fox Farm Nutrient Trio!! With Bud Candy!

Absolutely easy, follow the schedule that comes with the nutes or on the website.  Just instead of full strength for Grow Big and Tiger Bloom, take it in 25%,50%,75%100% intervals and it works good with the soils you are using.  I use FFOF and FFLW with the nutrient trio and its almost fail proof UNLESS!!!! you misread the instructions and use tablespoons instead of teaspoons lol

  10.
hmm well I just started using it last night. And if your around in like 6-8 weeks I'll let you know if it has helped.  Man I read a couple saying it approved the yield at the end. Well hopefully It helps and doesnt kill mine. And I do as well recommend Foxfarm trio I am using it right now. But a buddy of mine is doing organic and you can see the difference.

  11.
Thanks for the recommendation, puts my mind at ease.

As for the full strength statement you made: Just instead of full strength for Grow Big and Tiger Bloom, take it in 25%,50%,75%100% intervals and it works good with the soils you are using. - Since you didn't mention Big Bloom, do you use Bud Candy instead of Big Bloom?

And at what point do you start using Bud Candy?

Also, newb question - How can you tell when your plant is vegging and at what point do you know when to stop vegging (and the vegging nutrients) and the flowering phase (and flowering nutes) begins?

  12. I think you should give them the Fox Farm Trio.  Instead of giving them more chemicals, you should also feed them some black strap molasses.  Otherwise, I went organic myself.  I'm currently in the middle of growing it so I have to agree with everyone that its just better.  Its all around easier and seems to grow a better product.  Nothing against Fox Farm though as I started out with their nutes as well and it created a pretty good product.

  13. Hey,
I attached a sample of the Fox Farm Feeding Schedule for the nutrient trio package or what not.
I believe the chart is based on a 4 week veg and an eight week flower according to the way you introduce the nutes.

You will get 3 types of nutes:

    1.Big Bloom
    2.Grow Big
    3.Tiger Bloom

For Big Bloom, its not that strong at all and i've been using it at 100% week 1 and all the way until the grow is finished.

For Grow Big, nute is specifically for the vegetation stage, the schedule states you should add it at week 2.  As you can see the schedule already has a lower dosage, 2 teaspoons instead of 3.  I use grow big at 25% of that dosage for that week.  The next week is says use 3 teaspoons.  Depending on how my plants are doing ill use either 50% or 25% strength during week 3.  All the way up to Flowering, i increase the percentage by 25% until 100%.

For Tiger Bloom, it states you should add 2 teaspoons on your first week of flower, i use 25%.  I keep increasing the dosage every week until 100% is reached.  You use this once you induce flowering, aka 12/12, aka HPS or 2700k etc.

For Bud Candy, you use 2ml per liter for flowering weeks 1 through 6.  Again, i follow the same 25% increment rule. (not really a rule more of something i go by)

    ---------------------

To answer you question about vegging and flowering, You control the vegging phase and the flowering phase.

You achieve this by your light cycle as you are tricking the plant into thinking HEY SUMMER IS HERE and HEY FALL IS COMING lol.

You can veg a plant simply by keeping the following light cycles 24/0,20/4,18/6.

You can induce flowering by switch the light cycle to 12/12,11/13,10/14.

I personally use 18/6 for veg and 12/12 for flower.

How long to veg and when to flower completely depends upon your growing conditions.

  14. I only use FF duo lol   Grow big and tiger bloom.. Start lite and keep bumping it up

I can't speak to fox farms, never used it. I did use roots organics three part system for my first few grows with success.
    Buddha grow
    Buddha bloom
    And Trinity
Just follow the directions on the bottle. Start light though but that goes for any nutes.

Molasses is used to feed the microbes in an organic soil mix. For example a tea consisting of earthworm castings, water, and a little molasses. That bubbled for 12-24 hours makes a huge microbe tea to feed your soil with.
Soooo... If you're not doing organic, don't need molasses.
If you're interested in organics. Start here.

  17. I did Roots last year side by side and FF out produced and tasted better. I am adding some teas this year  too last year i did a few teas they seem to mix just fine..

  18. I'm currently using FF trio in my Hydroponic Coco Coir grow. Been steady happy with it. Yeah... there's some chemicals in it, but there are alot of organic goodies in it as well. It comes with a schedule to help you figure out when and what to use throughout the grow phases. As someone said earlier... Do not mix up tablespoons with teaspoons. lmao! You had to know that when you mentioned Molassas, us users were going to come out of the closet! I love molasses. Folks that over use are the ones with negative results. Makes some sweet bud. I can't comment on the bud candy... never used it. Looks like you're going about your grow right man. Keep on asking questions, cruising the GC threads and learning. It never stops and becomes a full fledged addiction. I love it. :gc_rocks:

  19. You got me there... ive never grown outside or done any research on it.

The only thing i could really see different is:

    1.  You dont have control over the temps, weather change, any outdoor variables.

    Outdoor growers lend a hand?
