Question About Methods

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by NorthernLighter, Jul 3, 2014.

  1. Ok so ive started growing for the third time. (Fingers crossed I get to finish this one.)

Now I think im am going to go with the main lining method.

Now my question is which of the following do you think would yeild the highest amount.

    1) 1 big plant
    2) 2 slightly smaller plants
    3) 4 slightly smaller plants
    4) pack in as many 1/2 or 1 gallon pots as will fit
    5) pack in as many solo cups, and flower them all in solo cups.

I have now way to really estimate the yields but looking at the solo cup challenge the winner had over 10 grams. I figure if I mainline I can aim for 10 grams a solo cup and if I give each cup a 6" x 6" space I can fit roughly 32 cups in their which would be 320 grams. Now I am a noob so I could be way off. what are your thoughts?

My flower space is 4.3x2.3x4 LxWxH
    600 watt hps
    May add some cfl supplements
Soil less mix (do not know the name)

  2. Main lining is a great idea - planning on doing it myself in the near-future. However, I'd definitely consider going with a larger pot than a solo cup if you're going to main line. It doesn't have to be massive like a Home Depot bucket, but something more substantial than a solo cup.

The more root, the more fruit.

As far as gauging total yield, that would depend entirely on what strains you intend on growing. Even that will only give you a decent estimate as there are many factors that affect the overall size and yield of a single plant.

Here is my suggestion -  do 2 to 4 plants in a 2 to 3 gallon pot. Do one main lining plant in any size that floats your boat (at least 2 gallon would be my suggestion). Before deciding on how you're going to main line, figure out what strain will handle main lining better. Most breeders will specify if their particular strain bodes well with SCROG setups. If a strain handles SCROG, it can handle main lining.

My only reason for suggesting that you do more than just main lining is to avoid another fucked up grow. You said this is your third and hope this one will be able to finish. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket by only attempting to main line. Main lining, in my opinion, is an advanced technique and requires patience and attention to details. If you have a few other plants growing naturally, you're better off enjoying a decent harvest if the main lined plant decides to give up on you.

Just some food for thought! Throw any questions you have my way and good luck!

  3. Thanks for the imput.
The reason my last 2 didnt work out was
    1) my roommates gf and son (only a couple months old at the time) moved in with us. It was a stealth grow and my roommate didnt know so I abandoned ship.
    2) new roommate, this one was in on it. Eventually about 10 people knew. My roommate through a bunch of parties behind my back and the cops were there atleast every other week. Again abandoned ship.
Broke my heart to throw my babies in the river :(
This time im playing it smart.

And the strain I am growing is Jackberry X KO Kush. It was a freebie a few years back. No info on it now :(

And I was thinkin on a side by side at some point to compair anyways so I might as well do it this time around.

It doesn't really matter on the number of plants when the light source and area remains the same.

Fewer plants take longer to veg but are easier to look after. If you want higher yields go hydro. Watering many soil pots would be a total nightmare. I would have 8 maximum but could have 2 decent sized plants. My flower tent is of similar size and I fill it with 1 plant

Fewer bigger plants that are trained either ScrOG, LST, or TTT to fill out the canopy is better in my opinion. What's main lining? I've never heard of that

  5. I wanna do hydro. I just want a harvest or to under my belt first

  6. Scrog, 1 big plant, 10-12 gallon pot.

I have thought about that. That was actually what I wanted to do. The problem is my tent is 7' high and is split into 2. 1 3' high and 1 4' high. I dont have the room to start a scrog in my flower space. I would love to try to do a mainline/scrog. From what I read that should give amazing results.

  8. Main line SCROG sounds amazing! I hope you do that just so I can see it done, man! I like the idea of 1 big plant in a 10-12 gallon pot for sure.

  9. I don't get what you mean, a ScrOG screen doesn't take up room, it saves room. A lot of people ScrOG because they don't have much height

You have 600w HPS in a 4' high area? Then you will have to ScrOG. No way you could fit any plants in there otherwise. I doubt it could be done either way though

I think you will be better off buying a new tent that has at least 6' of height

Its trying to put in the screen in the veg room along with mothers. And the taking it out and moving to the flower room. After thinking about it I could start the screen in the veg and then undivide the 2 halves and get the fiancé to hold it while I get the divider set back up. That doesn't help the space issue with having the mothers in there as well.

The hood I have is air cooled. The hydro store had the same setup I have except my fan/filter are better. There were growing other plants however amd the door was wide open as it was a display. The guy said it would work. He did take me out of the 1k light.

I have the same problem. In my veg tent I TTT and LST and when I put them in the flower tent I install the screen and veg for a further couple of weeks. Not a perfect solution but I believe it's the best one for my set up

Have you not tried it yet? What is your ventilation set up?
