Question about lux reading

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by seedstodreams, May 15, 2019.

  1. New to all of this, still trying to understand lux and how to measure it correctly lol

    Using 1x QB96 elite v2
I'm just using free lux meter apps on my phone (motorola droid 2 turbo)

When I put my phone between the two pots, why is the lux reading way higher compared to 3 inches over?(the middle of the pot where the seed will be)

I'm going to be growing 2 plants in 3gal pots in a 2x2

  2. All lights decrease in intensity as you move away from the epicenter of light.
Perhaps your phone doesn't have the best light sensor or app.

  3. Yeah, my phone is old and the apps are free. I was just trying to get a general idea

  4. It will drop as you move away but it shouldn't be that drastic

  5. Spend a few bucks on a real lux meter. You can find plenty of options under $35 on amazon. If you’re trying to get a somewhat accurate reading, your phone isn’t going to cut it.

  7. Gotta get an LED meter. If you're using mixed spectrum what they recommended won't work well but for HLG plain white light it will work fine.
