I don't know if you guys hear this alot, but it seems to me that whenever the legalization of Marijuana topic is brought up, someone always throws in "Marijuana is the largest cash crop in America", which is a pretty significant point, if it's true. My worry is that this is just sort of a misnomer for some other statistic that got crossed up somewhere along the way? Can anyone provide me with more of an answer than this? Like an actual source? I'm not at all criticizing the people who say it, I just want to be sure that before I say something with that gravity that I have a strong piece of evidence to back that up. Anyone?
Ounce for Ounce its worth more than gold and used by hundreds of thousands of people every day. It has potential to be HUGE especially if you include hemp(fiber and composite that could revolutionize the industrial industry). If you want to learn about marijuana watch "The Union" The business behind getting high on google video its 1hr44min so make sure you got the time. If you spend enough time on the internet you can actually unearth some truth on here if you are careful. Another good doc. is "In Pot We Trust" also on google.
Marijuana is useful as an industry because it is a huge new market that will be opened up (legally) and be taxed. Besides the point that legalizing will lower crime and other drug use rates, it is indeed by far the largest cash crop in America (see below for sources) Now honestly, i know the ridiculously inflated prohibition price of marijuana has something to do with that, but the marijuana market (at 2006) was about $35 billion, while the second largest cash crop was worth $23 billion, and so even though the legalization price is expected to be at most half roughly half of the prohibition price, i believe the market will grow so much that marijuana will remain the largest cash crop. So that price just gives a glimpse at its size, and still you can see see that the marijuana market is larger than corn and wheat combined As for hemp, it is useful as an industry not because it will open up a whole new market of new inventions, but it will make thousands of current products and make them in a cleaner and greener way that is better for the earth and for us. Hemp is extremely useful for clothing and paper and biofuel, and can make those products in a much better way than they currently are Marijuana: The number 1 cash crop in the US Marijuana Production: Comparison with other Cash Crops Marijuana Called Top U.S. Cash Crop - ABC News Biggest U.S. Cash Crop: Marijuana A glimpse at the usefulness of hemp: http://www.green.net.au/gf/images/cannab_uses_5.gif A Vision of a World of Hemp : TreeHugger
americans food cash crops lose you money the only reason america still has farmers at all is agricultural subsidies so without any research at all, I decide that marijuana would be Americas biggest cash crop. Other people posted better links, but I just wanted to point that out.
It is funny how after typing that earlier i saw a news story about all the gold scams that want you to send all "Broken and unused jewelry" for cash which caused me to research the real price of gold, but you corrected me before i could. So its not worth its weight in gold, it could still be a huge new business as well as a new branch for existing business to make tons of money. Think of commercials, billboards, clothes, TV shows, movies, food, glass, so many people could benefit financially it is crazy. Lots of money to be made unfortunately all the wrong people are profiting right now.
Thanks for the responses, I'll be checking it out. And $1000 damn I remember when it was like 350... Strange...
